It will never happen because neither GM or Ford have any money. They both are technically bankrupt.

Mercedes and the German investors have long been unhappy, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do try to sell.
But why would GM want to buy it?

Probably to stay #1. They know Toyota is about to pass 'em. I don't know why it's so important to claim the #1 spot. I'd rather be #14 and profitable.

Every company GM buys gets a Fisher-Price interior and stupid little "GM" badges that look like postage stamps. When they aquired Hummer and ruined the H2 by basing it on a Tahoe. Then they really ruined the H3 by basing that on the Colorado pickup. We have a pattern here, eventually Hummer will have a "H9" based on a Chevy Aveo. GM sucks and I hope thay don't take Chrysler and ruin it.

As I understand it, GM bought Saab because Saab owns the patent rights on some neat stuff.
Chrysler bought AMC for their Jeep line. Then the Germans bought Chrysler for their Jeeps and the Hemi name.
Perhaps GM is interested in putting "Corinthian leather" in the Vette. I sure hope so. That stuff was awesome! Or maybe GM wants a Hemi Cobalt. Who knows?
All I know is that I wouldn't buy a single Mopar, much less the whole company!
Hopefully AFTER I get my Challenger next year!

That was the first thing that popped into my mind, too. No, no no! Don't GM-ize my Challenger!
:alone:  :mad2:
I seriously doubt that GM has the financial resources to buy Chrysler. And why do they need Chrysler? GM is on the road to a comeback. They have engines with more power than the Hemi. And they can build a Camaro cheaper than Dodge can build a Charger. Chrysler has (without Mercedes) no technology to offer GM. I don't see the point.

I hate to say but that is about the truth in a nut shell. I do not see any reason for GM to buy Chrysler. The only thing that Chrysler has that GM doesnt is a full size 4-dr RWD car. But that's not enough to purchase a whole company over. Dodge did pretty good buing AMC in the 80's. They got the Jeep line, did away with the junky AMC car and used the AMC head design for the next line of Magnum engines. But I really do not see any Purpose of GM going into more Debt for the purchase of Chrysler. Hopefully it's just a rumor....

Well I guess that FORD is not the only domestic manufacturer that is sucking wind.
I thought that Chrysler was doing 'OK', especially with their 'SRT' product realeases...:dunno:
Misery loves company. It is such a shame to see all the domestic manufacturers are "On the Ropes".:(
Meanwhile Toyota and Honda continue to sell bland, look-a-like automotive appliances like hotcakes....:puke:
Because of the majority of US consumer's automotive purchasing habits, Everyone is going to end up with very dependable, very similar, VERY BORING 4 wheeled toasters.:sleepy:

Unfortunately, enthusiasts like us represent a minority in the eyes of the automakers, unless you want a pony car. The market for large, performance sedans is limited. The average Joe does, in fact, want a dependable, reliable, mainstream transportation device. Honda and Toyota figured that out 20 years ago.
