Now that's what I call toast  !! Glad you're OK. I watched a car end up like this one day outside a quick-change oil place. I was next door at a Burger King eating lunch. Smoke started rolling out from under it and through the hood seams. They came with some fire extingishers from the quick-change oil place, but couldn't get the hood open (must have melted the hood release cable first). They fired the extingishers through the radiator and under the car, but that didn't do any good. Fire department came, pried the hood open and put it out, but the car was totaled by then (although, not as bad as yours).

Hope your insurance gives you a fair settlement.

I know of a pre-decontented 300B with mileage in the 30's for a tad more than settlement and is on the west coast.

Man, that is a sad sight, but as long as you're ok.

PS: Did the spare tire make it through the inferno?

:alone:

The insurance payout is nice, but one does get attached to certain exact cars.

It's good you got out quick, that looks scary.

Glad you go out unscathed.:D The insurance settlement seems fair IMO.

The spare was in the garage along with it's cover and my stock intake. Anybody interested in them? The spare is just a donut, remember it was a 300B.
As for the insurance money it goes to the loan company and leaves me waiting for the 08' Challenger.

That gives me the creeps.

At least you're here to talk about it.

Really sorry to hear about your misfortune. Glad you are here to talk about it though. Sometimes I fall asleep in mine (its so nice and cozy in the winter). I'll be thinking twice about that in the future. I guess this is one set of MM S/Ns that won't see the light of day again.

So 2nd totalled MM? What is going on, nevertheless good to hear no one was injured.

Sorry to see that happen.

I had a tune up on a 1974 MK IV and while they were tuning it the freezer plug popped out of the carb.

They plug it w/ a rubber plug and did not mop up all the fuel sitting in the valley.

I drive off 3 blocks and she is smoking.

I pull out my new extinguisher from my road emerg kit and it just spreads the flames.

This is on a sat pm along the busiest street. I take off my jeans and try to put out the flames. I try to flag down a car, but no one stops.

Fortunately 3 teens in a p/u stop w/ a fire extinguisher and they put it out. They give me a ride to the shop and I talk the manager into keeping it over the weekend.

The dealer fixed it for $2K.

I sued the shop and the company that sold the fire extinguisher. They eventually paid.

One looks at the way the hood is burned and wonders about that bundle of wires that's pinched behind the cylinder head and the firewall. I'm not saying that's the cause, but it should give everyone impetus to check out that potential problem.

Maybe you should just stay away from black ones....

:shake: Sorry to see and hear of your "mishap". But all in well you got out in time. As for the "MM". Well, that could be replaced. But human life is very important in these cases. Hope you get another one. Are there any investigations on how your car when up in smoke??? :bigcry:

Glad you're ok....that's the main thing.

Anyone have a count of how many MMs are gone? Seems like quiet a few have left us in recent months.

"impetus"
What exactly does that word mean¿

This is from Reference.dictionary.com:
im·pe·tus /ˈɪmpɪtəs/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[im-pi-tuhs] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun, plural -tus·es. 1. a moving force; impulse; stimulus: The grant for building the opera house gave impetus to the city's cultural life.
2. (broadly) the momentum of a moving body, esp. with reference to the cause of motion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Origin: 1650–60; < L: an attack, lit., a rushing into, perh. by haplology from *impetitus (though the expected form would be *impetītus; see appetite), equiv. to impetī-, var. s. of impetere to attack (im- im-1 + petere to make for, assault) + -tus suffix of v. action]

—Synonyms 1. stimulation, spur, boost.

Hope this helps.

To bad we can't determine the cause of the fire. This way other MM owners can look out for this problem.

That's got to suck. It's very courageous of you to share these pics.

I see the car is by a house. Did you keep the car?

It would be a cold day in Hades when I'd take $17K for my '04 DTR w/moonroof, etc. I'd have my lawyer suing an insurance company for an exact replacement of my car.

I did not feel it would be worth buying the car back and trying to make money on those few items. Too much work and I would have to pay to get rid of the rest of the car. I did not ask the buy-back price.
