OK, so I replaced my speakers and thought I had cracked the code. Now I'm second-guessing myself. Still don't know why all those d*&m wires have to be colored different. Why design them to be red/black or red/green for ALL the speakers? Anyway, anyone know off the top of their heads how to distinguish the + from the - on the factory wiring?

I got stuck as well when i saw all those colors. If you look at the OEM speaker, there will be a green or blue dot by the negative terminal. then look to see which color wire went there in the harness.
