Anyone running a C4 trans in their Marauder?

No one that I am aware of... Would a C4 even mate up to a mod motor?

Don't think so without some major fabbing.

And even if a C4 did bolt up, why not use a small block C6? It's a hella lot more robust.

Why would you put a 35+ year old tranny into a Marauder ???

C4 is stronger, some of the 'stang guys do it. There is a special bellhousing to mate it to the mod motor. The C6 isn't an option, it doesn't have a separate bell housing. Some of them are using the C4 along with an add-on overdrive unit from Gear Vendors. You lose the lock-up torque converter.

Get a Turbo400 adapter plate and run that instead, along with a Gear Vendors.

The bellhousing, I can understand, but I'm curious, how is the C4 stronger? I know that it's "quicker" internally, but it's classified as Ford's "light duty" tranny, while C6 is most definitely Heavy Duty.
Everything I've been able to find on published specs, show that when you've run out of room and have passed the limits of the C4, it's time to move up to a C6 (or preferably a much newer) trans.
Just curious...

I'll have to agree with the C6 being stronger than the C4.

I tore apart the C4 in my 500+ Hp '78 T-Bird in two 1/8 mi runs. Replaced it with a C6 and raced 4 years on it. Then replaced the stock engine and drove it for another 60,000 miles before selling the poor thing.

I support the old C6, but would rather invest my time and $$ into buildingt up the tranny in my MM.

Aren't Lincolns coming out with a 6 speed auto. I wonder if that would fit??

I think there is a heavy duty C4. My 63 w/427 ci used it with the only problem being it sucked out the shifting diaphragm every now and then. Simple fix kept a couple in the glove box. Also new of a Boss 429 that used one because she got tired of replacing the 4 speed manual.

Stock for stock, a C6 is stronger. But who would put a stock one in their car? You can get C4s built to handle 1000hp. I have one. They make bellhousings to fit the mod motor, so it's a bolt up deal. The C4 is lighter and has much less drivetrain loss than a C6.

Personally, there's really no NEED for a C4 in a Panther, unless you had a 1000hp all out race car and just wanted to save some weight over the 4R70/75.

1000hp in a Mustang is not 1000hp in a Marauder. At 650+hp in a Marauder we have SERIOUS problems with the drivertrain, as we have a lot, LOT of weight to get the beast moving. Torque and HP must be reconfigured (re-thought)in a Marauder application. ASK MARTY!!

Have to disagree here, having spent plenty of time getting personally intimate with the innards of both.

Reason some of the stang guys (drag racers) swap in the C4 is 'cause it has less internal drag than the AOD
or 4R70W, and also the C4's smaller internals have less rotational inertia. Same goes for why many drag racers
prefer the C4 over the C6.

A C4 can be built to handle some impressive power levels on the drag strip, but keeping it alive on the street,
whilst pulling around 4400 lbs of Panther, would be a bit of a stretch. Don't get me wrong, the C4 is a great
transmission, but you'll spend a ton of money making a C4 as strong as a stock 4R70W.

Your '63 would have come with an iron-case MX, not a C4. C4s were used behind sixes and small V8s, but
I've never seen or heard of a factory C4 bellhousing that would bolt up to an FE or 385 series engine.
Aftermarket, yes...

As an aside, the MX was later transformed into the FMX that was used behind a lot of 351s in the late '60s
and much of that design also was carried forward in the AOD/4R70W.

Sorry, not directing my comment at anyone. Just speaking from the experience of blowing a built tranny. If I have the money, I would go with a built T400 or a built Powerglide.
