View Full Version : Just Go With The Flow

Sometimes it is just easier to go with the flow. Less complicated that way.
This morning I had to drop by the security office to renew my base stickers for the MM. The clerk punched my name and VIN into the computer and he says "That's a Grand Marquis, right?" I thought for a second and responded "Yes". Sorry gang ... sometimes it is just not worth the 15 minutes and the full '03 Marauder VIN and designation discussion that would have inevitably involved several layers of supervisors and a walk out to the parking lot. ;)
I wonder why my insurance company had no problem in identifying the car as a Marauder on ALL my policy paperwork ?

Since Marauder was originally an option package on Parklanes and Montclairs, I just tell myself that calling it a Grand Marquis Marauder falls into tradition. Deep down, I know better, but that helps me tolerate the morons.

IIRC 2003 MMs show up as Grand Marquis even on OASIS because there was initallly no special VIN code for them. 2004s got their own "Marauder" VIN designation. I am kinda fuzzy on this, so someone please confirm/clarify/correct me.
My 2003 shows up in OASIS printouts as a Grand Marquis to this day. :)

Mine ('03 300a) is a Marauder to everyone, Ford, Chase Finance, my insurance, etc....
However, my '97 Jeep Wrangler is a "wagon", not an SUV?
When whipping up on the competition it always sounds better if you tell them a Grand Marquis spanked them. Marauders are starting to make a name and gaining respect. Sometimes it's good to be stealth.

The M79 will identify it for insurance purposes and as a stand alone model in 2004 The M75 is the code for all Grand Marquis, including the Marauder Version for 2003, just as P71, P72, P73 and P74 are the 4 trim levels of Crown Vic...even so, the Crown Vic Sport is also a P74...not special like your 2004 Marauders.

Mercury Grand Marquis - Marauder Option.
Except it wasn't an "option" if you were ordering a Grand Marquis.

the 2003 Marauder may share the M75 code with a Grand Marquis, but Ford especially should be able to figure it as a Marauder by the engine code alone.

...our 2003's are worth far less than the 2004 because of them being Gran Marquis'es, rather than true Marauder'esses.
We must now assign Peerage to the Panther hierarchy :bows: . Obviously, the 2004 Marauder should be #1, as far as performance goes, with the 1979 Crown Vic (with cloth interior), last.
The Towncars are a conumdrum  ! For instance, An early 80's Towncar with a Roush installed FI 460 could be considered the Bugatti of Panthers  . Also, 2 door Crown Vic's might be considered sportier than 4 doors, especially with OEM 351's. :coolman:
