I talked myself out of buying one in '87, saying I needed a "family" car. Bought a 3.0 LeSabre instead. (view Pat kicking himself).

Therefore, I'm hoping that ~15 years down the road, counting from 03, our cars should command at least twice as much as we paid for them. 27K appreciated to 54K+. Even though MM's are selling around 15K now.

Of course this is from a guy who lost most of his fortune in the stock market.

I like it, but I wouldn't buy that one. I'd get one with some miles and mods. Cool find though.

Yep,
I think that they are looking for 6 figures based on the comment: "they are changing hands the other side of $100,000.....less than 20 have this low a mileage...."

BTW; Did you see the sticker price....$29,000+ ($11,000 for the GNX option!! ) for a GNX 20 years ago!!!!!:awe:

What kind of mechanical condition is a car that has sat for 20 years?

I had a car sit for a year and the valve spring broke, due to rust. Fortunately I turned it off right away and the damage was limited to the valve.

That is not a car, it s an investment. Car enthusiasts need not apply.

Understood, but I question how good an investment it really is...

#1: To preserve its' value you CAN'T drive it. = No enjoyment

#2: You have the ongoing expense of storage and some form of insurance.

#3: What would $31,000+ ($29,290.00 plus taxes, title and tags and any ADP...additional dealer mark-up) invested in 1987 be worth today assuming @ 10% annual rate of return?

Why torture yourself with an automotive 'investment' that you CANNOT drive??

Drive them! and Drive them like you stole 'em!...Collector Lynn Park owns something like 9 ORIGINAL SHELBY COBRAS...and he drives everyone of them as often as he can.

That's awesome, I love GNx's. Two people in my town have one and both are in excellent condition. Something I never got though, what's with the "Jiffy Lube" looking logo mean?

It is NOT a good investment at all unless, YOU PUT IT IN A MUSEUM.

First of all the tires are all EXPIRED.
If ANY maintenance has been done, I'd be surprised.
It probably has all ORIGINAL fluids and oils from GM.
There are also several recalls on it and they have probably not been performed.

This car CANNOT be driven at all.
It is only TO LOOK AT.
If you start driving it, it's gonna fall apart in a few hundred miles
of the dry rot and the oxidation that has happened to it over the years.

Anyone looking to pay NORTH of $100,000 is going to get just what they deserve:
A MUSEUM QUALITY 1987 BUICK REGAL GNX that CANNOT be driven.

Cars are made to be driven.
Barrett-Jackson auctions vehicles all day long.
I've seen stuff go for MILLIONS, but even the vehicles that sell for MILLIONS
are DRIVEN !!! What good is it if you can't enjoy it ?

For the same $100,000 you can find a Regal GN and rebuild it
to better than new and add today's technology to it.

That is the BUICK TURBO 6 logo.
I have two of those emblems in my tool box.
They are sitting, waiting for me to put them on ebay,
in about another 25 years...

This emblem was also under the hood of all t-types without turbo's in white, (Century,Skylark,La Sabre, etc) Its the logo for Buick's SFI injection. The logo was colored orange and yellow on all turbo vehicles with this injection.

Ahh I see then. Thanks. I wonder why Jiffy Lube started using this logo? They have no right using it since they suck and GNx's don't.

Id sure like to own it. Seems to me this is a perfect Barrett-Jackson car and I bet he could easily get over 100k there. The GNX was a hellofa nice car.

See - that's what I'm talkin' about! That GNX is like the prices for 60's muscle - out of reach for many whom would truly enjoy it. Personally, I'd much rather a good GN that I could enjoy, versus a mint GNX that I can look at!

PS - From the prices I see here (in Toronto) $14K for a nice GN would be a smokin' deal (pardon the pun) :burnout:

Exactly...You can have the best of BOTH worlds...
There is a guy who attends the Burtonsville, Md. 'Donut Cruises' on Sunday mornings with a GNX clone.
A GN with the built engine, GNX wheels, GNX suspension upgrades, and GNX fender louvers. (I'm sure it didn't cost him $86,000+ ... )
He doesn't have to worry about 'ruining' a VERY rare collectors car yet he does get to drive it HARD and have fun!

I remember this thread from a few months ago, and it absolutley blows my mind. What I don't understand is how someone 20 years ago buys a brand new $30,000 car and doesn't drive it, then. Even on the newest auction, the car with less than 10 miles, who in their right mind buys a new car and doesn't even drive it home? Shew, rich bastages...

Most people cant kick themselves in the as* for not buying one, you couldnt get them for that price and the list was a mile long. My friend was slated for one at 31k and he got preference because he bought two GN's prior to the GNX.

He was offered 12k to sell his list number to someone else. He kept his GN and walked away 12k richer. Thats how hard these were to get. I've seen about 10 of these on the street since their inception so they are rare indeed. Expect them to command over 100k as time goes on. I would much prefer a GSX as I am a big block Buick fan but a GNX will do.. :burnout:

I had a choice A Buick Regal T or a Mustang Cobra. I picked the Cobra and drove it for 17 years. I sold it for $1000.00 but I think I got my Money's worth.

I wonder sometimes weather I should have gotten the Regal T but I can't really complain the Mustang was great.

Pat

I dunno, Pat. Marty & I both have '93 Mustang Canary Yellow Feature Cars. Much lower production numbers than the MM, and in our case, a garage queen with less than 4,000 miles on it. The value has still not reached the original sticker price, after nearly 15 years. Correct for inflation and you'll quickly see there's far better ways to invest your cash than buying cars .....unless, as Joe correctly points out, driving's your aim.:drive:
