Kinda hard to find any real selections on what I buy being that I'm left handed.

Guitar center here in NY had only 2 left handed guitars and they tell parents that if their child is to learn guitar, buy them a right handed and let him learn that way, Left handed guitars are few and far between.

2000 Fender Strat with 50's aftermarket neck, sideways humbucker pickup on the bridge like Billie Joe from Green Day had back when they were Green Day...
2001 Gibson Les Paul Custom
2003 1967 Gibson Flying V Reproduction.... very special story behind that guitar.
1998 Ibanez RG220B Painted like a Corvette Grand Sport from 1996
Stella Acostic from the 20's or 30's and probably my favorite
200? Squender... Fender and Squire parts to make one.
2004 Epiphone Junor
2004 Epiphone ES
2000 Fender Electric Acostic
1995 96? Kay 2/3 size electric for kids... haven't taken it out in years.
2003 Fender P-Bass

Thats it for now. I wanna sell a few, but since I didn't buy them I'm not being allowed to. I see it as a waste since I only use the Fender Strat, Stella and Flying V these days.

Hope you play that thing better than me. I almost broke it at a store because I got so :mad2: . I knew the songs I was playing in real life, but the game said I sucked. Also thats supposed to be a Gibson SG, not a Fender. Just F.Y.I.

My wife gets upset everytime I post this picture of my bathroom. I won't put it in my gallery. It was a mess that day I took the picture. The white guitar was one I was doing work on for somebody.

I'm the Stratman, heyyy I'm the Stratmaaannn!
'75 Clear Ash / Maple, Dimarzio SDH in bridge (Bought in '79 used) irreplaceable!
'77 Red Ash/ Rosewood, Dimarzio SDH in bridge (Bought in '82 used)
'78 Tobacco sunburst Alder/ Rosewood, Lefty-switched nut otherwise all stock (Bought new in '80) "Closet Queen"
'78 JPM 50 watt head (Overdrive) and #1980a cabinet (Head bought used ~'80, second cab - original was stolen)

Everybody has their favorites, but nothing sounds like a Strat (Although many guitars sound better) and absolutely nothing sounds like a Marshall. Oh, and by the way, I play every day I'm at home! None for sale.

Rock-on,

J

What would you Guitar Guys suggest for someone just starting out. My wife has expressed interest in learning to play guitar (she is a music teacher). I suggested that maybe we both get one and learn together:rasta: . Of course she would need something smaller for her and i believe she was looking at an Ibanez. Any comments? Someone steer me in the right direction. Also, any drum players here??

I would suggest to you that you get the Squire pack. It comes with a little amp, chord, cable, tuner, picks, strap... everything you need. If she takes interest in this and gets good than you can buy the expensive stuff like a Marshall and a Gibson. I highly reccomend it for people just starting off.

I have been playing off and on for about 20 years. Lost interest for about ten years and started playing again about 4 years ago. My son is left handed and plays left handed. There is a fairly good choice of lefty guitars if you look. They are usually a little more expensive than a righty. He bought a new Fender Highway 1 Strat that made in USA. The stock pickups were not nthat good so we change to some EMG SA's.
Brutus, I would try to go to a locally owned store and try to get the best guitar you can afford. They are usually much easier to play which means it will probably be played more often.

For a beginner I would recomend a mid priced acoustic. Maybe a Washburn or Yamaha.

I tried that when I first started and let me tell you I wish I picked up an electric first. It's easier to play, sounds cooler (for what I like) and the action is nice and low so it's perfect for a beginer. Acostic is nice too, but you'll need more patience to start with one of those.

I'd personally say that the higher action and "harder to play" quality of an acoustic are part of the reason it's better to start on. If you start on an acoustic and go to an electric, it's easier...not so much if you go the other way.

And a definite +1 to the person that suggested going to a SMALL, LOCAL guitar shop. The personal service, and the fact that they know you when you walk back in, makes all the difference...

Starting with an electric guitar will teach you bad habits that are very difficult to lose. The easier action doesn't require that your fingers get stronger. Also, amplifiers are another lesson enterely. First learn guitar.

Ditto!

I started playing on a hand-me-down Spanish-style guitlar (big old acoustic with f-holes), and the action was the highest I've ever seen on any guitar. I have never lost the callouses on my left hand fingertips, and it's been over 35 years since I picked that guitar up.

Seven years later, when I got my first electric guitar, it seemed to just play itself.

Yep, got some of The Meteors' stuff. I need to get some T-shirts or something, though!

It's been a while since I heard any Gene Vincent. I'll get right to work on it, though!:sing:
