OK, I had the new Flowmasters installed this past Friday. So far VERY pleased with the sound that I got from just a muffler change. And I need some more evaluation time, but I have had it on the interstate and have no resonance at any speeds. Especially at cruise speed. Yes, you can hear the exhaust if you accelerate lightly, but never annoying.

I also love the way it sounds now at start-up and at idle. Definitely much improved over stock. Way to cold around here to drive with the window open to see how it sounds.

Now for the kicker. The shop that did the install was not an actual muffler shop. They normally do cat-back, bolt-in systems. Well, this was proven out by the fact that the exhaust tips are now angled up slightly, are actually in under the bumper a little further than they were before, and hitting the opening area there in the bumper.

My fault for having this shop do the install. So, I am going to take it to the shop that I should have gone to originally. I want them to get the tips straightened back out and then I am going to have them extend the tips out some.

What I am looking for is any and all pictures of your exhaust tips after you have had them extended some. I want ideas of what they look like from the outside with them pushed out some. Wondering how far to go. Was thinking of going far anough that you could read the word "Megs" on the top, but didn't want to go so far that they don't look right and stick out to far.

Please post your pictures when you have time. And different angles would be nice. Especially side shots and looking down on them from above.

Thanks,

When you say an inch past the bumper, is that measured from the cut-out to the end of the tip on the top? That looks good.

I have no drove issues as it is now, but want the tips not only straight again, but out just a little.

The top of the tip is an inch past the cut-out. You can almost read the megs logo if you look at the top of the tip.

Here are a couple of pictures. After actually getting a better look at them today, they are not touching the bumper cover. The sit just inside the lip of the cut-out, but they still angle up just a little.

I still want them straightened out and extended out a little bit. Maybe about an inch and a half from the cut-out lip.

It doesn't look like they did too bad a job, that's pretty much where they are stock.

Something just doesn't look right about them to me when I look at them. I think it could be that they are angled up some when you look at them from behind:

I suggest you order up a set of delete tips from Wes, then do a search on Haggis very cool delete tips quick change flange system with the 3 bolt flanges and try that. He was able to adjust 'em anywhere he wanted and can change them in just a few minutes. There's a post under his screen name about a year & a half ago.

BTW, the stalactites were a cool touch in your photos .....brrrrrrr!

You like those. They were worse. It is actually in the 30's today so the melting should start. And they are saying 50's by the end of the week.

Thanks for the pics.

Mine used to sit a little lower from the cut-out like yours do. I think that might be the change that they are angled up some now. I think I will get that fixed and have them extended to make me happy again...

I notice you have the cracks in the paint on the passenger side as do i. Does anyone have this also?

Eric,
yours look fine with the exception of passenger side sitting to close to the cover. Think that's where my cracks came from vibrating tip after Magnaflow reinstall last fall.

.

I wonder if this is the rear bumper cover filling up with air at higher speeds?
This is actually the first time Im noticing it.

Maybe if an extra hanger is added the cracking will stop, instead of the regular two hole rubber hanger at the end of the tip. Go to your nearest muffler shop and get an upgrade on this. I decided to do this upgrade when I change my exhaust to 2.5 tubing.

Eric,
They look perfect! Leave them as they are. Just clean the snow out of the bumper cover so it is straight again. Of course, this is my opinion. Others may want them protruding! Not me.

I don't have any cracks like that on mine...After i put in the skid plate....I had a old Grand Marquis that has cracks like that...Its definitely from the big space, that caused the bumper to ballon out and then crack....

About an inch is it...more than that and they will drag on some occasions...
like backing out if you haven't given the rerar end time to "stand up"...

Well, took the car to the muffler shop that I should have gone to in the first place to have the tip "issue" resolved. He spliced in a piece of pipe ahead of the tips and extended them out and leveled them so they have clearance on the bumper. Definitely looks better. He also bent the hangers for the mufflers up some to tuck them up higher.

More so, I really didn't think the tip extension would do much. I was actually more concerned about clearance on the bumper. Much to my surprise the interior volume of the exhaust is pretty much back to stock levels at all rpms and throttle positions. I just hope she still sounds as good on the outside!!!

I will get pics up when the car and tips are clean again. Lot of snow melt going on right now!

I got them from a speed shop down the street. They are Magnaflow. Wes ran his GB around the same time I was getting mine installed, we just missed eachother.
