Hope KAILUAZ still checks this site...kinda hard to tell, after the Big Splinter of 2006.

This is the showroom floor of the Ford dealer he used to work at, in the little town of Kailua, on the north coast of Oahu (Mackenna Windward Ford). Hadda go there today to (finally) get some maintenance done on the wife's Freestyle. Pictured is---in order from foreground to background---Foose Stallion, Saleen/Parnelli Jones Edition (#154, if anyone cares), Saleen S281 (supercharged to 465 HP, I think---don't quote me), and lastly, a Heritage paint-scheme Ford GT (dealer markup: 115,000---bringing the total price to $290k).

Mr. Mackenna was there too...the last picture is his car sitting in the service drive. Life must be good for him...for those of you who can't see the picture, it's a Bentley Continental GT convertible.

I guess even Ford dealers won't drive their own cars....sad.

All beautiful cars. How much for the Foose Stallion? You can order one of those from Ford now?

The Foose markup was the smallest, at 10,000; total price was 58k. The Saleen S281 was up around 65+ after markup, and the PJ Edition was around 60+.

Understand, however, that Hawaii dealer markups are basically legalized highway robbery and are in no way reflective of actual market forces or values.

After remembering some of the posts from folks who actually live on one of the various islands of Hawaii, and the horrendous traffic and driving conditions, why would anyone pay that kind of money for a car they would never, ever get to really drive? I guess you can look really cool going 12 mph on the highway...

Because we've got all those rich superficial Californians out here...and looking good, even in gridlock, is mondo importante to Californians...

The gridlock isn't always there; if you can divert the local cops, then the H-3 direct expressway between Pearl Harbor and Kaneohe Bay MCAS, up through the mountains, does open up between midnight and 0500. That's about 25 miles of uninterrupted asphalt; only downside is that half the way is a 10% uphill grade, the other half is 10% down, and there ain't no level ground in between, and the tunnel through the mountains has license plate cameras.:(

The only speeding ticket I've gotten in this place, I got at 0230 hours coming back from a CT exercise at Pearl Harbor. Cop paced me at 50 in a 35 zone. He wrote the ticket down to 45, to give me a break.
