Hello!!! New Marauder owner here

Hey guys. I live in St. Paul, I have been a full size ford owner since the day I got my licence. I have had 7 panther body cars in my day and have finally moved up to the best of the best when it comes to panther bodies.

2003 Mercury Marauder

I just bought this 2003 MM last week. 17,000 miles. Pretty much new in my book! I can't wait till the snow melts here so I can pull her out of the garage. You may have seen it on ebay. I ended up getting it for $16,500. Seems like a steal to me!!

The ford show at Apple Valley Ford is a good place to meet except it seems to rain every year!!!!

Jason, Welcome to the world of MM!

We have a relatively small group here in the cities. The cars range from stock to heavily moddified. Cruisers to 1/4 milers to road course fans. I do not think anyone in the cities has Autocrossed a MM yet:cool:

We get together semi-regularly at Porkys (on the east side) or Minnetonka Drive in (west side). We have people that live in all parts of the cities.


We do not have any meets scheduled, but with temps in the 50's coming soon perhaps that will be the catalyst for a get together:banana:

My mods to the car include the following so far.
Custom made Box Mufflers or Flowmaster 40 series Mufflers.
35% window tint
4:10 (whenever the 3:55 start humming which I hear is common on these cars)
Hitch (gotta pull my 75 Glastron CV16SS one way or another!)
Satalite Radio

by the way, I go to porkys and university ave. every once in awhile to cruise in the summer. I will keep an eye for you guys.

FYI. Just mufflers won't do anything. The stock exhaust is too restrictive. 4 cats, 2" pipe to the inlet of the mufflers. You need to open the whole thing up to gain any performance or sound. 4.10's and a tuner will make a huge difference. Just my 2 cents.

A ride would be awsome. I am not to concerned with making it faster right now. Just changing what I don't like. I am not to happy with the sound of the exhaust. I won't touch the cats as thats huge fines for me!!! 4:10's only when the 3:55's wear out.

I don't have gears yet, just a tune, air intake and mufflers. The three together make a big difference over stock. Gears will probably be next when I have some disposable cash.

You're gonna love the MM.

I see you're looking to do some towing with your car. That brings up a couple of questions I've had about that subject: How suitable is a MM for towing, what is GVW capacity, and are there any recommended mods (trans cooler, etc.) if the car is to be used for towing?

Anybody out there got answers for us?:confused:

Well, I know crown vics and grand marquis are rated for 1500 lbs. Which is rediculious since these cars are basically trucks. Think about it, Would you feel sager pulling 3000lbs behind a midsize car based minivan or a fullframed Panther? Even back in the early 90's the country squires were rated up to 5000lbs with the trailering package. I personally pulled about 5500 pounds behind a 87 country squire with 225,000 miles on it. What a champ! As far as the marauder goes, it will be used to pull a boat about 2000 lbs. She should be just fine. My 98 pulled over 3000 like nothing many times and never had any tranny prblems altough I did have to install some cargo coils in the rear. Just keep her out of overdrive and tranny cooler dosen't hurt either!!!!!

Jason, welcome.

Your 3.55 will do fine for pulling and will prolly never wear out. I suggest the 4.10's and a flip chip. It has two or more 'tunes' and a switch. Perhaps a tune for bad gas, one for pulling (with a long TC lockup in 1st and 2nd) and one for enthusiasm (like most of us run). You can then have the best of all worlds!!!!

I also suggest a brake upgrade. These cars like to go. Stopping is important! With the added load of towing, I'd do a brake upgrade high on the mod list!!!
