Went to fill up today. Paid for the gas, Picked up the nozzle and fliped up the lever. As I turned around, gas sprayed all over the side of my car. Someone  had left the lock on the nozzle in the lock position. I never noticed it , have never thought to check for this before, but I will from now on! thank goodness there was a touchless wash just across the street at another station, so it was rinsed off in less than five minutes, but the wax is gone. Check your gas nozzles !!:flamer:

I don't flip any levers up, or push any buttons in until I fully insert the nozzle in the filler hole, period.

Thnaks for the tip. Glad you got it off:) Happy to read you were covered in gas and then have to get in your car, that would suck.

 ^^^^^ Good advice, too. :D

+1 Insert nozzle, flip pump handle, squeeze trigger, engage ratchet. Been doing it for years as SOP. :D

The strangest thing happened. I read this thread, then went out to do errands.

Went to my favorite (only) gas-up to fill the MM. Noticed the nozzle was dripping when I removed it from the pump, then noticed the catch on the pump handle was left by the last person.

I have never seen that before, and when I read this thread I have to admit I was thinking, "well, that ain't ever gonna happen." Then it happens to me for the first time in 20+ years of driving, right afterward.

Kinda spooky.

Think about it; the only way that can happen is if someone intentionally does it.

I'm reminded about the fun loving group of folks who removed the speed bump sign so they could videotape the accidents.

Thank you very much for the timely warning, this little stunt could end in a horrific tragety.

In NY self service have the locking function disabled. You must keep your hand on the nozzel at all times while fueling, unless you put the gas cap or some other object under the handle.

The gas should not flow unless the plastic / rubber boot is depressed by the filler neck. Or so I thought. ???

The pumps in Westchester work just fine...

Charlie, that's not the case in PA, but hopefully that will change.

I am not a big fan of the little locky thingie on pump handles. I have seen them not shut off flow when tank is full and pour fuel all over the car, ground, etc. I stay right there squishing the FUEL PUMP handle and listening for the gurgly noises that tell me the FUEL TANK is getting close to being full, then I let up on the handle a bit so it pumps FUEL more slowly till done.

Note: caps inserted afterward cause it sounded pornographic when I read it after typing the first time. ;)
