View Full Version : And Now For Something Totally Different
This will sound goofy, but I'm used to that. It seems that my cup holders always seem to fill up with junk, making them useless as cup holders.
I'd like to get a couple of nice door mounted cup holders, the kind that hook over the slot by the windows. Trouble is, our doors are wider from the window inward than most cars, because all of the cup holders I've tried have a "hook" thingy that's too narrow to fit.
Anyone know where I can buy some "oversize" cup holders that might fit in our MM's? Thanks

Something I used to do for easy clean up...
Take a plastic bottle, like Coca-Cola or Sprite, drink it up (of course) and cut it open from the middle. Cut the plastic bottle in half and toss the upper part. Take the lower part and soak it in a small bowl of soap/water and scrub a little to get the sugary drink residue off. Dry it off, put it in your cupholder, and you have a place for your coins and other items without making a mess. To clean it up, just lift it out and everything is contained within the bottle half. If you cut it right, you can get it to be the height of the cupholder and it will almost look like nothing is there at all - especially when it is filled. Cheap and easy...

That's a good idea. I've used styrofoam cups I've picked down to the level of the cup holders.
Another thing I have done is take about 1/2 a paper towel and fold it down to roughly a round shape the same size as the cup holder to soak up bottle/cup sweat.
After it gets wet once it get real flat, dries out, and is ready for another round.

They make absorbent coasters for the cup holders. Called car coasters.
It sounds like I didn't make myself clear on this one. I don't mean that my cup holders are DIRTY, just that they get filled up with cell phone, pens, business cards, etc., so that there is no room for a cup or bottle to go in them. I'm looking for a side mounted cup holder where I can put drinks so that I can use the console cup holders for other junk.

in the 30's Buick, and probably other cars, had automatic cleaning ashtrays.
Perhaps it's time for someone to invent the cup holder auto-vac.

Sure you did. We just aren't clever enough to help you and have compensated by showing you how clever we are on related matters. It's a time honored tradition of thread hi-jacking, just more subtle and polite.

No one here would EVER do that!
Now, back to my cup holders...

Do you have the pockets on the front of your seats? They are handy for some of that stuff.

Check this out...it may solve your problems.
I have one that I was using in my focus and I loved it...I just don't use it anymore. If you think it might work for you I will see if it fits in our cup holders and if you want it I will send it to you.
