started another thread asking about this noise. Up front, alt, w/p, tensioner area and your suggestions leaned towards the tensioner. Upon another listen, It SURE seems the noise is coming from the alternator/ DS head area. I also have noticed that, when the lights are on, there is a slight dimming pulse on my dash and gauges. No coolant leaking from the pump and its not overheating at all. When I get down close to the tensioner the noise isnt so loud although that might be my perception. Any more thoughts?
Thanks

Mine does the same thing. With all the bells and whistles running I've also seen the voltmeter drop just under 12

is especially prevalent for some of the folks who changed pulleys..or set idle speed down a little with their handy tuners...a little smaller pulley on the alt will increase its rotational speed...
Okay,
Try this. Take a long thin bar, shaft, screwdriver, broomhandle, etc. Grasp it firmly with one hand at an end. Overlap your thumb over the end and stick it into your ear. With your other hand, direct it against the non-moving, non-rotating parts of the components of concern. Keep it away from anything that moves or could deflect it into moving parts. This will telegraph the sound distinctly to your ear. It may help to have someone vary the engine speed slightly while you probe around. That may make it more distinct. Sometimes, the vibration alone may be evident in the shaft. This is a poor man's stethoscope, but it works very well. Be careful and pay attention closely. You could definately hurt yourself badly if not extremely careful!
Best luck,
J
