I think this is what he was aiming at: http://www.wheelsdirect2u.com./mercury-marauder.htm

By the way, that car does not exist in the "real world."

I saw it at the NY Auto Show 2 years ago. Was supercharged and everything....awesome. I'd grab one if they would build it... but then again Ford will not invest money in a new platform that does would not appeal to the mass market.

You're right, it'll never see the light of day.

There was also an article in the 2/11/02 issue of Autoweek on the supercharged Marauder concept vehicle. It had a Roots-type Eaton supercharger producing 6 psi of boost pressure.

That's why my 'other' car is topless....

Internet archives...Old news. I recall reading this article when I was researching the MM. It must be at least a year old now...

But, it was a nice idea, and a shame that LM didn't pull it off.

Oh well...

Yes Mercury said they had great response on the convertible concept, and production of the convertible would depend on how well the 2003 was received. We all know the outcome of that.

Personally I think Mercury should have said they'd build 6,000, not 18,000.

I'd reconsider not purchasing one if they made a drop top. No one builds a big convertible anymore & I can't understand why; they're great for cruising on a Friday night with some friends.

The 2003 wasn't received at all!!!!....... -I'll bet Mercury takes a dirt nap in 3 years....

a salesman at the local dealer tells everyone who looks at a Marauder that Mercury is going to build a convertible Marauder. I think he's turned off a few sales because of that.

If they had made the convertible, I would have considered it when I bought my new Thunderbird.

Mercury will be around for years, Ford Motor Company has sunk alot of money into New model development, and the President of Ford has given his personal assurances that Mercury is not going anywhere!

The only people who have insisted Mercury will close are the magazine writers. They said it was going to happen a few years back. It didn't, and to save face they keep bringing it up as "new" rumour

Rancorkeeper, just give in and buy one. You know you really want to :)

Well, my interest was certainly piqued, but the Tahoe took the place of another four door sedan, so no new vehicle purchases for a few years, when the Bullitt is paid off. And I'll only sell the Caprice if the money goes toward a '95 or '96 DGGM Impala SS - I'd get so much less than what I've put into it I'd be stupid not to hold on to it. But I'm excited to see what happens with the Marauder in 2005 or 2006 or another Ford four door. I'm also hoping the Monte Carlo is a rwd by then.

It's weird, I was always the type of guy who thought buying new cars was stupid because of the depreciation issue, but after my wife & I bought our Bullitt as a wedding gift to each other, I realized if you keep the car until after the loan is paid off you won't come out so bad & having a brand new car was a nice change. So we'll see what happens in another 2 years or so. Like I said, if Mercury builds the convertible concept, supercharged or not, I'm in. And I think the current package is a great deal at $28K-$30K, but it just didn't quite grab me at the time.
