I need more speed! :burnout:

Insightbb is offering a 10.0 package that I am about to go to, and dump my current DSL connection.

Changing email addys is a royal pain, but can save a few $$ p\mo while gaining faster download\upload speeds.

Anyone out there using the Insightbb 10.0 package that could share their thoughts?

If so, would that person mind going to http://speakeasy.net/ and run a speed test on their line and post the results here?

Wanting to make sure I am not getting bad 411 from them.

I am 99% sure I will make the change as their other features included are:

$30.95 p\mo.
6 email addys w\1G server space.
$10.00 activation waivered since I have their cable service.
$39.95 modem hat includes on site install\config.
10Mb max file size per email transaction.

Any feedback given would be appreciated.

Dunno? I am on wireless???? Maybe that changes things a bit? I know your Modem can have an effect on things. These Surfboards are JUNK!

I want my old-ass blue Motorola back. The ISP was unable to throttle control those ;)

interesting.....

comcast has some kind of "powerboost" that will increase speeds up to 16 megabits.

though the numbers you guys are reporting seem to be quite a bit faster than that.

im very skeptical of those results with comcast, though its very ccool if its actually that fast!

PowerBoost is a patented-pending Comcast network technology that enables you to temporarily experience bursts of download speeds faster than your provisioned 6 Mbps or 8 Mbps speed.

A PowerBoost burst will normally last as long as 10MB of a file download on Comcast's 6Mbps High-Speed Internet service, and as long as 20MB of a file download on Comcast's 8Mbps High-Speed Internet service.

PowerBoost has been very consistent for me in downloading large files. It's there when you need it.

Man, back in the day my house was one of the first to get the Comcast cable. I remember getting 4.8, 5.0 mbits a second. Those were the good old days. Then once everyone was dumping 56k, they were all getting cable and I was bogged down to 2.0, 1.8 in that region. We switched to DSL and saved a bunch of money. And now Verizon is getting the FiOS so it should be a good increase in speed, and still cheaper than Cable. And to be honest, I noticed no big difference in dl speeds.

About those email addresses... Do what I did...

Setup your own web host... Maybe $2.50 a month
Get your own domain name... $9/year

Now you have your own email address ... that you control...
yourname@yourdomainname.com
You get at least 10 for this amount... plus webspace

Never worry about the ISP email address again...

Interesting....these were done about a minute apart. Speedtest uses Speakeasy for their testing.

Last Thursday I went with Insightbb 10.0

Just moments ago, I was pulling down a 30Mb file at 1.5Mbps!

Normally, the speed is between 600k and 900k.

I've been using a 10Mb/s Cable since 1997. The only time I approached the speed limit was downloading something from Microsoft at 3 am. only approached 8.5mb/s

If you want speed for downloads try a multiple download programme. Something that lets you break the downloads into multiple blocks and re assemble them later.

If it is for games, you may not be having bandwidth issue rather latency or lag issues. This is often caused by being to far away from the server in question.

Lastly make sure that it isn't just your computer having problems and not your interweb. Microsoft Windows needs to be reloaded every 6 to 12 months to keep the speed level up. Cleans out the crap that fills up your computer and slows you way down.

And make sure if your running an anti virus programme to turn it off when you start playing a game, or atleast set a manual or only when starting up update request/ check. These programmes constantly running in the background will eat your bandwidth something terrible.

I started in DP/Telecom when 9.6 multipoint was considered high speed, and T-1s were the thing of the future. It's amazing where we've come in 25 years.

I now have a high speed cable modem set up at home.

My company REQUIRES that I work from home every other day. It seems that our office complex (few thousand workers) has run out of space, so we alternate days at work using any cube that's available.

They have set me up at home so that not only do I get my "desktop" and applications as if I were sitting in my office, I get my office telephone service using Voice Over IP. They also provided a router, printer, and a laptop. Plus, they will pick up the transmission charges (not my HD TV, unfortunately).

If someone dials my office number, my computer "rings" and I'm talking (through a headset) just as if I were at work. (We have a pop-up of our office phone showing the phone's display, conference/transfer/hold etc buttons, and the indicator light for message waiting.)

I dial all my outbound and intracompany (4 digit ext/ext) calls just as if I were in the office.

The VOIP voice transmission is not as clear as using my normal phone when I'm in the office, but it's very acceptable.

When I travel on company business (we have over 800 locations just in the USA), I plug into our network, and my office phone service is routed over the company data network to my remote location.

Mind boggling.

So DSL is Broadband.

This is a vast improvement over the past two days where I was using dial up (Verizon broke my DSL while repairing a short in the phone line). My freakin' cell phone (33.6) was downloading faster than their claimed 52k BS.

varies each time you run the test though.

although Dallas came in fast too.

Now if I had a local Canadian test server that would be different.

running 10Mbp I have downloaded at 8000+ from a Microsoft server at 1 am in the past.
