Survey says ..... between $18,000 and $20,500. KBB says $20,400 retail in excellent condition with 35K miles. The value of your mods depends on the buyer.

Looks like we are still tracking on the depreciation curve. Haven't started to flatten out yet. :(

The simple answer is TIME. The '96 Impalas have been out there for 11-12 years. Their depreciation curve has already flattened out. We are still waiting for that to happen (if it does). Numbers indicate that hasn't happened yet and probably won't for a couple more years. Maybe it is starting to slow down now. My guess is that the MM will bottom out at around $14-15K around 2009 and hopefully start a slow climb.

Maybe by 2013, we'll also be holding out for $20K or more as these cars become harder and harder to find. Only time (and the market) will tell.

BTW - this is only a guess on my part. I have no particular insight into this collectors value issue. I am in it for the fun ..... not the uncertainty of future value. :D

im asking 22k for mine with 31k miles. with your mods i would ask at least 23k. its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Just my opinion but around my neck of the woods mods do not add any value to most average joe car buyers...just the opposite...lowers it...but with the right buyer it can really help but seldom do recoup your mod money...good luck on the sale...willie

IMHO your "projected" depreciation chart is bogus. I really dont see our cars that are in good shape ever getting below 12-15k or thereabouts. Just look at the Impalas.

I think you missed my point totally. That chart shows continued depreciation at a constant rate for the life of the vehicle. My note above says that I expect it to flatten out in the area of $15K (kinda like you). When that will happen is anyone's guess -- maybe we'll start seeing something by 2009. You gotta read the words to understand the chart. "Bogus" --- yeah that's a good word. ;)

Higher than average miles? Yes, but you cant deny this is cheep for a DTR.

Seems that the seller of that particular car is desperate for some reason. The ad even says "THE NADA VALUE OF THIS CAR WITH THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS $17,825 BUT NO RESERVE SO THE HIGH BIDDER WINS". Wonder why he is willing to part with it for $5,000 less. There's more to this story. Seems that the "value" of the car still fits within the depreciation band for an '04 DTR with high miles. At 85K in just about 3 years, that's nearly 100 miles per day.

My friend goes to college out there. I had him stop and look at it. Let's just say when you start it up there's a "ticking" sound...Not to mention the rough idle.

You guys would flip-out if you knew how much I paid for my 04 DTR with only 714 miles on it... I need to find a beater to keep the miles down... I'm already at almost 7k...

So....how much did you pay? :D I bought mine and it had almost 14k on it and got a very good deal on it. Hell, that was this past August, now it almost has 23k on it.

I bought my slightly used '04 MM in 8-'04 with resale in mind.

I was also looking at a new Mach1 Mustang in Competition Orange. They were very close in price.

I got the Marauder because some one else already took a huge depreciation hit on it. I got more car for the money IMO. After two plus years of ownership, I'd have to say that my car is worth more than when I bought it.

Don't believe me? Try and buy it! You'd have better luck trying to buy my dog. It would take an absolutely stupid amount of money to get me to part with either one of them.

FWIW....look at Mac's car. He sold it for $25K (I think). That car had EVERYTHING done to it that could have been done.

ANYTHING is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I paid a pretty penny for mine. I felt it was more than worth it. One of my better decisions (IMO ;) ). i have not had a single instance of Buyers Remorse over it. Only for not getting it 53e weeks earlier when I bought that Sierra...

I just dont see our cars going for much less than they go for now (unless we are talking about high mileage, dinged up examples with questionable modifications.) Dont have any idea if/when prices will go up but Im sure it will be a while. The market is pretty well flooded with good new cars that are pretty cheap and everybody with a muscle car thinks he should get Barrett-Jackson prices. I say again I think nice ones will never get below 15k except in desparate cases.

Isn't there a problem with that chart starting at $35,000 ?? I don't know that anyone would have paid full sticker. If the chart started at "average paid" , the value now would not show as much of a drop.

It depends on the buyer. I'd say a aveage between $19-$21 K max. As someone else said mod's don't really add to the price of the car much. If the car is garaged and not used every day maybe a little more.

I think an unmodded car is of greater value.:twocents:

You are right on the money Charlie.
The wild card to me is how many MM owners keep the miles down and the maintenance up...
Nobody thought about what a car would be worth someday when they fired up that 68 Mustang for the first time...so we have a chance to preserve a rare car, comparatively speaking.
That said, I have no intention of selling mine unless God forbid I am forced to.
Great Presentation btw!:bows:

Remember, when all is said and done this is still a "niche" car. Attrition will start to determine the price that one can be bought or sold for in a few years, modded or not. By that time no telling where gas prices will be. No offense, but look at all the peple that have parted with theirs in the past couple of years because of it.
