I put my new valvebody in and now the car acts like it is in neutral when going to OD, IE free reving. Checked the linkage in the pan and everything is fine. Any ideas???

I had that happen once, but hopefully it's not the spiral lock clip that holds the OD band in place.

How does the spiral lock clip get harmed when doing a valvebody? And what were your symptons?

Drop the pan and fully connect the long black connector.
I think you just failed to push it all the way up in all places.
Ive made that mistake before, only it affected the 1-2 shift.

I have checked that and I am pretty certain it is in as far as it will go. Maybe it is damaged.


Drop the pan and fully connect the long black connector.
I think you just failed to push it all the way up in all places.
Ive made that mistake before, only it affected the 1-2 shift.

It is possible thought there is a sticking valve in the valve body.
What exactly did you put in?

Yeah, I spoke with the builder and he suspected that also, so I put my old valve body back in with the new shiftplate/gasket. Same results. The only thing different from stock is the new shiftplate and the accumualtor/spring mods. I guess an error on the shiftplate could have the same effect as a sticking ball if one of the holes or the gasket is screwed up?

I PM'ed Jerry, so I hope I hear back from him!!!!!

No, didn't touch it. Where is it?? I just did the 1-2, 2-3 accumulator spring thing and valvebody.

Its the largest servo above the valve body.
Jerry reccomends switching it out with a higher tension spring so it will disengage faster during a downshift.
I believe the stock color is green and you need to put a yellow in.
It wont kill you to leave it alone.

Did you modify YOUR plate, or did you pick up a spare plate?
And did you use a gasket from Ford?

I got a complete valve body assembled with plate & gasket and one new spring (brown).

Put in complete kit - nada
Put old valve body in with new plate and gasket that came with it- nada

Should have checked the new gasket and plate to make sure the holes in the gasket had been opened up also???

Use ford gaskets:
1W7Z-7D100-AB and 1L3Z-7C155-AA

And compare all the holes. Aftermarket stuff can be wrong.
Sounds like the plate/gaskets are bad, not the valve body.

Besides, what are you changing in the valve body anyway?

Good article. I just went ot my local tranny shop with the new plate, springs, accumulators, and told hm to call me when it was done.
for $125 I couldnt beat it.

For you MM owners with the J-Mod, can you notice really that big of an improvement? I mean, I thought all the 03+ Panther's got a "revised" valve body and some of Jerry's recommendations, therefore, we wouldn't have to do that to our cars.

For you MM owners with the J-Mod, can you notice really that big of an improvement?

Huge improvement. Mine can shift so hard now it will scare you.

The tranny no longer SHIFTS gears. It SWITCHES gears.

For some reason, my 1-2 shift is like mudd when it's wet outside. Oh wait, that's my tires spinning!!!!

Let's just say, don't be sippin your coffee when the 1-2 hits, no matter WHAT RPM!!!!!
