Get 3 quarts of synthetic fluid like Redline and you won't need friction modifier.

as stated ^^^, the rear end takes a little less than 3 quarts (IIRC it's 2.2L). If you use the recommended Motorcraft 75W-140, you'll need one 4 oz. bottle of FM.

Just (very little) over 2 qts has been my experience. Careful you dont overfill. And if you have a girdle be sure to fill up to the bottom of the FACTORY fill hole, not the one on the girdle. Overfilling will result in a spewing vent :nono:

Dumb question here, what is the service intravel for a OEM rear end? Stick with MotorCraft fluids or go aftermarket? Which aftermarket?

I used 75W90 redline fluid and I had to add extra friction modifier. With just the straight fluid my rear end Jerked and chattered like crazy when the it warmed up. just my 2 cents

Straight Redline in mine after the 4.10's installed, no problems.

100k for severe service.

Motorcraft is fine, as are most aftermarket fluids.

What ^^^^^he said. guy at the shop overfilled the rear end by a pint and a half. gear oil was spraying all over the bottom and onto the air-ride bags...:shake:
