It's just so cheesy a presentation!
And the start is a RWD concept that never will be a real car.
If the Ford sites (let alone the cars) were like that there would be so much loud criticism there'd be no end to it.

The SS name plate is getting a beating on this one??

Looks like they have taken alot of the MM ideas and putting them in the SS as if they came up with the original idea--as said before--the MM is the standard by which all others will follow...and it appears it has started...

They supercharged that thing and still could only get 240 HP? I wouldn't brag about that if I was them.

I am wondering what the Impala SS boards are saying about this new old car. I envision them saying “ I should have bought a Mercury Marauder with the rebates”.

I don't think the members of the Impala SS board like the new SS any more than we do.

That would be what? about 190 hp at the wheels?

The lowly Sable must be cowering in the corner! :)

They have said it will be limited production. That's smart, and what Mercury should have done, instead of saying "We'll build at least 18,000"

GM will likely advertise it well too

Same powertrain as the Grand Prix GTP and the Bonnivelle SSSE. Nothing new about it. Just that it says chevy instead of pontiac.

The Impala SS and the Supercharged Monte won't be out until this fall. Do you have connections or did you mistake the cars you drove?

The one I saw at the KC auto show just looked like any other run of the mill Impala. Nothing jumped out and grabbed your attention....(yawn). At least with the 94-96 Impala SS, you could tell there was something special about it coming down the road.

You can tell a block away there is something special about the Marauder. A lot of people don't even make the connection that is the same body as the Grand Marquis. It's my Grand Marquis "With an attitude!!"

Doesn't matter, looking97233 is correct in what they are. It's a pathetic joke to the SS moniker

I came across this SLP site that is offer upgrades for the current Impala and Monte. They do make the Impala look a little better but not by much.

Just saw a TV ad for the new Impala SS (told you at least GM would advertise it)
The ad was kind of lame. "My 409" music playing. A guy and his wife driving down the freeway, suddenly flashing lights behind, the guy looks sheepish, his wife gives him a "look"
The Police car is an old 9c1 Caprice, it just passes.
There is some talk of "power", or at least the "feel" of it.
A real impression there is some performance connection with the past.

GM will get away with this drivel. Mercury on the other hand gets accused of "hype" in talking about bringing back the "feel" of the muscle car

Actually the MM is a copy of the 94-96 SS, so whom is copying who???? Yjr fact is somebody probably did the V8/RWD sedan in all black and chromeless before the Impala. If you go by looks the new Impaa SS is going with themes from the 94-96 Impala SS, definatly not the Marauder. IMHO, the standard for Sport sedans (though MUCH more pricey) was started with the 98? E55 Mercedes, then the 00 M5, now the 03 E55 has an SCed engiune and runs the quarter the quarter in the mid 12s, thre S65 with twin turbo V12, and Bimmer's next M5 is going to be a 500+ hp V10. The new SS is a disapintment IMHO, but the GTps run the 1/4 in the high 14s to mid 14s, so don't expect to kill the litte buggers either. I'm done babbling. Flame away :)

Okay, I was recently re-reading some Marauder articles in different automotive magazines and in just about every one they compare the MM to the 94-96 SS. Which is pretty easy to do, but the SS is over seven years old, what other new cars have you heard being compared to a seven year old one? It just doesn't seem right, is there no other car in the MM's class to compare it too?
Well I guess will see with the 2004 SS, but we will probably still get the shaft.

Just venting,

i'm sick of the 'marauder is just jocking the 94-96 impala's style! omg wtf!' argument.

it's black...no one invented it.

mm jocks the impala
the impala jocks the buick gn
gn jocks {some car}
and all the way back to
{some car} jocks the model t's style
etc, etc, etc....

While the two cars, the '94-'96 Impala SS and the Marauder are similar in concept, the Marauder is in no way a "copy" or "rip off" of the '94-'96 Impala SS .

The '94-'96 Impala SS was not the first "monochromatic" vehicle.

When Ford drew comparisons in early advertising with the '94-'96 Impala SS it was only logical, in the sense that there is no other car to compare it to, and stock performance is very close to the same.
Personally I don't think Ford should have drawn that comparison themselves, not that the Marauder is a better or lesser car.
To me it detracted from the Marauder's introduction.

In any case Russ's Vic spanked some Impala SS a$$ at the track :)

There were 2 SS's at the track, one didn't have as many mods (stock manifolds, etc...) while the one I ran against had BBK and edelbrock stuff up the wazoo (intake, exhaust headers, fuel rails, etc...) and even had a 6 speed stick!

I ran against him twice in a row in Russ's car ;) The AED + NPI 4.6 should be standard on all Crown Vics!!! LOL
