Any recommendations on trunk (lip mount) CB antennas/mounts for MM? I prefer over magnet, becuase other vehicle it is to be used on also, has non-ferrous trunk lid.

Most of the cars I rent from Hertz have either Sirrus radio, Neverlost or both. Their antennas are trunk or hood mounted and they put a clear vinyl pad underneath them.

I just bought a Wilson 1000 trunk mount. I have in the past used a Firestik and the K40 with good results. The Wilson IMHO is a step up, so I went with that. With CB antennas, you get what you pay for in some respect. Without a good antenna your radio won't hear so good or transmit as good.

Get some catalogs from ham radio outlet and amateur electronic supply, they have lots of non marring bases and antennas that will work on cb's but will have quality components that wont mar the finish.. Regards.. Richy

+1 for Wilson 1000.

It has a quick remove feature and a cap for the connection for car washes as well as being a superb antenna.

I used a Wilson 1000 straight outta the box with a 1cm airgap under teh whip and tightened her down. Straight 1.1:1 SWR across the band with no adjustments!!!

Here is a pic of the Wilson 1000 on my CVPI.

Thanks for the input guys. The shop I went to had the K40 in black. Other option there was grey plastic looking Hustler. I like the Wilson short whip they had in stock, maybe in the future I'll get it. I didn't see the nice Wilson mount though at the shop.

Got a Cobra 75 WX ST, CB to go with it. Will install when it gets warmer out.

Wow that is a really tall antenna. I have a Ranger AR 3500 that will do 17.5 watts rms on AM. If I left an antenna like that on my car though the local hooligans would probably vandalize it, thinking I was a cop.

I also have a Ranger AR 3500 originally from Clear Channel Corp from back in the 1980s with a Wilson 5000 with the short whip and at full power on sideband have been known to call out as far as Texas and Los Angeles. that was with my 2000 CV LX . I just don,t know where to mount the radio but when it was running in my vic , it kicked butt so I reccomend the Wilson 5000...:cool4:

This is how I hooked mine up. It works, but I hate it. I have another mounting plan in the works...

I am broadcasting through a Wilson 1000 antenna attached with a Magnet mount. The trunk lip mount caused "dents" in the paint on my ole marked CVPI.

Uniden Quarter Dime running an Astatic D104M6B mic on a K-40 on the roof of my beater work station wagon. The 2510 is fully modded, but barefoot, talked sideband in the extras to Holland and a couple of mobiles in England while sitting in a rain storm. I heard S.Africa but couldn't get back to them.
Heck,in 1968 I sat at the O'Hare oasis service road just south of O'Hare airport in Chicago and spoke to Venezuela on a 102" whip using an AM only Olsen 717 tube radio that put out 2 1/4 watts at the back of the radio and an Allied speech compressor mike. Like real estate a lot of it is location,if you're in a sweet spot you'll get out.
