With the "Marauder Review" Thread in mind (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34951)...just what is a good car? Honest question. A lot of this is subjective to personal preference and all that. Other things are not like quality and durability…I would think. Maybe it would be helpful to keep the field with in the $45K MSRP range; new. Or a used car originally $80K MSRP but with 5 yrs depreciation. I am thinking of the BMW 7 series? The idea is to find "value" for $$$$ paid.

Trouble free car? Probably a new Toyota Camry, they are sharp looking and in 10 years you could still sell it for $15k.

If only one would sell for $15K in ten years

The one that gets me to work, averages LESS than 13 MPG, has too much power, is too loud under WOT, looks slick, handles great, turns heads, and is comfortable.

Ooooooh yeah!

Other than a Marauder?

It depends on what you want to use this car for.

Personally I like the higher end cars.

VW Phaeton 2004+ stick to the V8 try and get a 4 seater. It was designed to be the ultimate driving machine. More so than a BMW. Has everything, does everything and with a great depriciation they are available for less than $45K. If you get the W12 you will get slightly less MPG, manueverability but more speed.

It was designed to be rock stable at 186 mph and has an airconditioning system that will keep you and 3 others a cool 72 Degrees F all day on a 122 degree F day. Double glazed windows, 4 massage, heated and air conditon ventilated seats. 4 zone AC, and AWD and if you pull the limiter will take you to 201 MPH with the W12. 186 MPH with the V8. It is also so plain that unless you know what a Phaeton is, you will think it is just a passat and ignore it.

The cars are all hand made in the Glass factory in Dresden Germany. Parts are available and most every, more so now that FP is back in charge, dealership has one or more qualified Phaeton mechanics. Parts pricing you would have to find out from someone like PanEuropean (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerouser?cmd=viewprofile&id=38838) at the http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1652232 VWVortex forum.

you can also watch Clarkson explain the Phaeton here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=58515475013548 99215&q=phaeton

The only thing better about the imports is marketing. They manage to sell you a mind set not just a car. Honda for life? No thanks
