So, uhm, what's wrong with shiny wheels? Personally, I don't think it'd look like a Marauder without shiny wheels to offset all that black. Just my $0.02.

I go back and forth on the wheels. The other day, before it got a bath, the wheels were just a little bit dusty looking. I thought it looked ok. I also like the look when they are shiny. Any advice on cleaning the inside of the wheels? I have cut my hands several times reaching through the wheels to clean them. I am a bit obsessive about my tires and wheels though.....

I like the chrome myself but I can see where the black anodized look would be cool. The Harley riders down here I talk to love the car......Black and Chrome. They LOVE chrome.
To each his own eh ??

Yes this a real issue, I for one never like the "show me" wheels.
Curz I have shop in my area quoted me a price right in the ballpark of your. (128. per wheel)
They would be tough as nails when finished.
I think the Marauder will take on a whole different look.
I know the debate will rage on this. Any time one goes and changes the look of what is said to be "perfect".

I would love to have my rims anodized in black. It would complete the darth vader look. I too am looking forward to seeing the pics.

Actually, if you are going to Trilogy Saturday, look for me...I'll be the other guy with the Ohio license plate! man I'm freakin happy now. looks like i will go ahead and order some new 255 pole position, Eagle F1's or Pilot Sports...just not sure yet....

One question.... does the shop widen wheels, too... or just fix 'em??? You might be able to kill two birds with one stone and go for the 9.5" rear wheels!!
I think the PowderCoat is a great idea and the car will look Sweeet! For everyone mentioning anodizing... doesn't the anodizing process actually weaken the material?? I, for one, wouldn't want to take any rigidity from an imortant piece of the car (like the WHEELS).

Willie....that never entered my mind that you were going there. And, I get more comments on the wheels as well...

After seeing the photos that Dan PhotoShop'd I'm even more convinced that chrome is the only way to go. If blacked out wheels are you thing then by all means go for it, but I think it looks absolutely wretched. Bleh. :puke:

Those out-door shots looked much better. I don't mind the metallic grey look. It's much better than a true black.
Whatever you choose, please do post images of your wheels when you get them done.

They look alot like Corvette Zo6 wheels...the only thing I don't like about the Z06 is the wheels...thats why there are companys that speacialize in chroming Z06 wheels. You are trying to do the opposite. Spend your money under the hood, you already have 18" killer wheels.

Cruz,
I've been working on rounding up a set of spare rims to do this with. The place that has been doing my powdercoating told me it would be easier/cheaper to do the un-clearcoated spare because they just have to take the clearcoat off anyway. It saves them some time and work, reducing the cost. Just a thought that might save you some $$$. I'm not doing my original wheels just in case I decide I don't like it and want to change back. I'm sure I could sell a black set to somebody around here in that case.

Fordnut, the spare may not be polished and clearcoated, but there is a dull silver finish applied. (scrape one and you'll see)

I put similar color wheels on my 94 black TBird and kicked myself in the *** for not going with the chrome.
The chrome wheels make a black car stand out, especially on a car like the MM (or the 94 Bird) that have no chrome to start out with.
But, if you like it, that's all that really counts.

I just think cruz is out to create the first true Stealth MM. All black at night that thing would be tough to see....now you just have to work on the impervious to radar part........ ;)

Cruz, I know they have a clear powercoat now. So, you could get your black anodizing done, then have them powercoated clear for protection. Would cost more but, if you want it...

I love black wheels on the MM. However, if I was going to go that route, I'd get a NEW set and keep my chromies as is.
I don't think the chromies would look good modded.
I saw an 82 box body Impala today sporting some giant 22" wheels with giant spinners. It reminded me of a monster truck on crack.

Stick with your chromies. I saw a brand new Cobra in the hourly parking lot at the plant today. It was a black one with SVT black/gunmetal rims. I think it was to much black on the car, and spolied its looks. But, that is just my opinion. You by the judge.
Peace out.

I'm assuming this pic is of the powder coating with the polished outer ring. A lot of people seem to love chrome. I however, have never really liked chrome. Too flashy for me and a pain in the ass to constantly keep clean. I like them the way they are, but I'd much rather have a set that looks like these do in the pic.

First post for me. A friend has a Hummer H2, and he had his stock wheels powdercoated in black. He had to do all the running around himself. He removed the wheels, took them to a tire shop to separate the tires and rims. Took the rims to a sandblaster, then to the powdercoat guy, then back to the tire shop for a "touchless" installation of the tires back on the rims. They look GREAT, and unique, from all the other H2's on the road. I will look into this for my MM after the supercharger from Kenny Brown.

Who's vehicle is that anyway? Is that the concept car? Interesting rotor, and I do like that red on the black cars. That looks like some real stopping power.

It is a concept from Mercury called the Marauder S55. I wouldn't hold my breath for production though. But I do like the tail lights on it and the wheels. Here is a link.

I am with Pchrman. Black with Chrome is awsome!!!!! I have had people ask if those are aftermarket rims. But I will wait to see the pics. The Vader look is what I have been debating about. I guy work saw a Black Crown Vic with silver tint. Said looks good. Just havent decided on the finall look of my MM. I thought of going with balck tint with a skull a cross bones logo on the back window?? Too much?? And know maybe with blacked out rims??? Will wait for the Pics!!

Leave it to a fellow Buckeye to do the black wheels. You musta read my mind... or maybe it's the water. I plan on the same approach. I also plan on leaving the lugs and center caps chrome.

quick question, are our rims 18x9? looking for bullit wheels to replace them
studio460
07-01-2003, 04:24 PM
Another post mentioned either 18x9 or 18x8 +50mm offset. Has anyone confirmed that these are in fact the factory spec rim size? Which is it? Is 18x9 +50mm offset the correct spec for all four?
studio460
07-02-2003, 02:17 AM
Okay, I went and looked at the label in the door. It says: "RIMS: FRONT 18x8.OJ, REAR 18x8.OJ." I assume "OJ" (or is it "zero-J"?) indicates the offset--anyone know the translation in millimeters for the Ford nomenclature?

Okay, finally found it in the other post . . .
18x8 w/50mm offset apparently is the final word on the stock rim size.
Cruz? How's the project going? I'm about to do it myself at a local wheel shop in L.A. . . . When I described the project (black powdercoat inside, shiny "chrome" on outer rim) they said they "could do anything." I think they wanted like a $1,000 to do the wheels like that. I am seriously considering. They also had some nice rims already black/shiny. But I think they were about $2,000.

Looks like the spare tire. You only live once, spend the money on black. Borrow from juniors college fund if you have to.
Get them done in black, and then paint the silhouette of the gods head with a black paint pen and now youre talkin. Good luck!!

Hi Cruz,
It looks nice, something different. If the bean counters at L-M can save a few bucks per wheel I wouldn't be suprised to see them do the whole wheel like that. Remember what they did to the Handling Package wheels, the '97 had nice polished rim with satin silver center that was clear coated. The mid-late '98 was fully painted they saved a few $$$ per wheel painting and eliminating the polishing process.
I like what Ford did with the Ranger FX rims on the black Edge package.

My cost $279.58 each.....which included mount and balance out the the door.
Full wheel powdercoat, not just the fronts, and full wheel clearcoat as well.
