You can buy the replacement kit from a dealer for the TSB Axle repair.
I don't remember the price. You can check with Ray.

I know of a shop that could possibly do it if you asked nicely. They installed alot of mods on my brothers explorer.
Where are you in NJ?

i have an 03 grand marquis...will I have a problem with wheel offset or anything else if i swap in a MM rear??IIRC, all '03+ Panthers should be interchangeable, but buying the axle TSB kit would probably be a lot easier and cheaper. It's around $320 depending on how much your dealer likes you. The kit includes new axles, axle bearings, seals, fluid, and friction modifier.
what gearing is in the MM rear?? 3.55 w/Trak-Loc (Ford's version of posi)

I believe you have 2.73 to one in the Grand Marquis... if you are not off warranty, the repair should be free under the soft axle recall any way... If you go to the 3.55s or 4.10s you will have to recalibrate computer, too...

If you have the HPP option on your car, you have 3.27s...if not, then you have 2.73s.
If you change from the factory-supplied ratio, you WILL have to reflash the PCM to correct the speedo.
If you make a big change, say from 2.73 to 3.55, you will have to have the transmission shift schedule modified or you will upshift way too early all the time.
To answer your last question, yes 3.55s will fit and will give you a big boost in acceleration, but you will lose a fair amount of fuel economy on the highway.

The guy who set up my rear is in Hammonton NJ. Just down 206.
He can do rears with his eyes closed. Let me know if you want his number. Real reasonable, he won't rape you for it.
He can also hook you up with a handheld tuner to program your new ratio.
