View Full Version : MV-V Expense Planning Factors
Last year when I planned Marauderville's budget considering I'm retired, on a fixed income and social security, I had to figure just how much the trip would cost. The budget I programmed was realistic the wife and I stuck to it and there were no surprises. Upon return the bills were paid with no undue stress on my heart.
Now that MV-V is coming up in a few months the budget planning process has started. However, some line items are wild azz guess's.
1. Gas - 2400 miles @ 22 MPG = 110 gallas @ $3.10 per Gal = >< $350.00
2. Oil change (after return) $35.00
3. Hotel, round trip, 6 days @75.00 = $450.00
4. Meals $10.00 per day X 2 = $20.00 X 7 days = $140.00
5. Entertainment (tours,) = $100 (WAG)
6. Activity fee's = $75.00 (WAG)
7. Shopping = $200.00
Total projected cost = $1350.00
Projected cost overruns due to wife's shopping = $500.00
fudge factor = $150.00
Real cost of trip = $2.000.00

You might be on the low side Pat .... I am paying $3.099 now for gas and my area is the lowest in the entire region. Expect to pay at least $3.399 by August (in this area). Hotel prices should also include 5% state tax and 6% county tax so the net is $83.25. Don't know how you can eat 3 meals per day on $10.00. I would double that estimate at least. Of course there are some meals included in the MV V itinerary plus the big banquet dinner cruise at Baltimore Harbor. Here's my revised estimate based on the above. Looks like your fudge factor covers most of it; but you will have to manage your wife's shopping overruns closely to get in under the $2K. ;)
1. Gas - 2400 miles @ 22 MPG = 110 gallas @ $3.399 per Gal = >< $374.00
2. Oil change (after return) $35.00
3. Hotel coming/going while there 6 days @83.25 = $499.50
4. Meals $21.00 per day X 2 = $20.00 X 7 days = $294.00
5. Entertainment (tours,) = $100 (WAG)
6. Activity fee's = $75.00 (WAG)
7. Shopping = $200.00
Total projected cost = $1577.50
Fudge Factor (10%) $157.75
Shopping Overrun Max $264.75
TOTAL = $2000 :D

Take out the food cost. You spend that anyway at home. <my accounting logic>
Thanks Bluerauder for the input. Because Patricia and I are on a fairly strict diet we will be eating our prepackaged food except for the community meals.
So whatever we save from the revised meal cost estimate can go toward her shopping.
If it's not enough then I'll tell her Bluerader set the limits and she will have to discuss that with the CAM leadership. By the time that can be arranged we will have departed the area and I'm off the hook.
However, if during the course of future events we meet again I'll introduce you as Son of Bluerauder so you won't have to face the wrath of a woman whose's shopping spree was limited.
(So many Malls, so little money - Patricia)
Peace.

Yeah, that oughta confuse her 'cause I expect the original S.O.B. (Son of Bluerauder) to be present for as many of the MV V events that he can muster. He went with me to MV III and won't miss this one if he has any say in the matter.
Here's a link to Valley Mall in Hagerstown >>>> http://www.shopthevalleymall.com/ so she can get a head start on her planning. ;)
Thank you very much Mr. Bluerauder for the link to the Mall in Hagerstown.
Thanks to you I am starting my virtual shopping now and am excited about the trip.
Patrick thinks I don't know how to read his posts, but he leaves them on the screen for all to see. Silly boy.
I'm determined not to be shorted on my shopping trip, and if it means that Patrick has to go on a total fast during this trip, I will just have to keep reminding him how good he will look when he gets home.
I will be all set to hit that Mall at a dead run when we arrive, and you boys can play with your little cars. Us girls know how to take care of business.
"Shop till you drop", that's my motto.
