This is just a feeler, but could be very beneficial to a lot of members.

I have not contacted VT about this yet, but Im sure they would work with us, and they were a vendor here some time ago.

So post up if you are interested in me contacting them for some $$$$ saving deals on really well built engines.

Why not add MMR to your list.

I'd be interested in def. hearing more about this since mine just clicked over 70k miles and having a spare engine/part would make replacement very easy and have minimal downtown if something were to happen to my engine.

Why not add MMR to your list.

I would advise against dealing with MMR based on my experiences.

I am interested in looking into this also, but didn't someone here have a really bad experience with VT stuff? Failure and no support or something?

I have heard of MORE THAN A FEW bad experiences w/ MMR.

Could be interesting with VT. But i'm just wandering if we won't fall into the "hood design ditch" as everybody will want a different design ?

I remember this also - just not the details.

What about the vendors we have now, perhaps they'd be interested.

If and when my day for a new motor comes, my plan is to get Lidio to put a replacement together. It would take one hell of a salesman to change my mind.

At least we're not dealing with MSX :D . Eh, mine just turned 23k lol. Although, I would be interested in a nice more powerful N/A motor. I doubt I would be able to afford one right now.

I bought my motor from MMR and had no problems. I know of two other people from this board who have bought from MMR and no problems. When I was calling looking for motors, it was a joke how other companies would say, oh your looking at there motors and you would say what and they would say, we don't like to talk about other companies. They want your business and were just trying to put a doubt in your mind about the other companies. Don't get me wrong, I am sure that MMR has had some bad motors go out the door or not met a deadline that was promised but so has most of the other comapnies out there.

I spoke to Scott yesterday, they have a very long lead time due to backlog.

Zack

I just e-mailed them.
If they decide to help us out, it will give us and them plenty of time to get beefed up in time for SSHS7

I agree. My MMR has been trouble-free and was exactly as promised. I would use them again.

Count me in. I am interested in a forged short block for my MM. Is it AL or FE? Can you give any further description on the details of a proposed short block?

Hey everyone, Scott from VT e-mailed me back with interest in helping us out.

He wanted to make it clear that there is a core for an aluminum block.
I strongly recommend us doing a group buy for IRON blocks only.
They are cheaper, stronger and easier to machine perfectly.
But the biggest benefit is the fact you will have a stock motor in perfect working order to fall back on, sell, use, trade whatever.

Please chime in again if you are interested, but know they are backed up a while. These guys take their time and dont rush anything out the door.

I'm only about 50 miles from VT's Lansing (MI) location. They are on my list of places to visit. If I ever get to visit them, I will take photos of their shop and interview a representative.

Pricing for one block=???

Pricing for 10=???

Pricing for 20=???

If there seems to be significant savings on larger quantities the we just need to prioritize a shipping order for those who need the quickly?? As for me I would be in no particular rush.....should I participate!!??

How much more does the steel block weigh over aluminum?

All of my research says 80 lbs. A supercharger kit weighs that.

As for pricing, hold tight, Im trying to see if there is INTEREST.
So if you are INTERESTED, chime in.

Of course I'm interested.... I'm living on borrowed time with my motor and after August who knows? wondering if this will be "cookie cutter" GB where we all need to agree on the same build though.

GreekGod
05-18-2007, 09:39 AM
...A cookie cut short block might be a good idea: an iron block, H-beam rods, and 10/1 forged pistons, with apropos crankshaft, all selected by the machinst/builder.

The experienced builder would know the hp capacity of the best matched iron or steel crank.

I thought Roush might have them "in stock", but their website shows no Modular engines!:

Ive sent the e-mail with everyones questions and concerns.
Now we wait.

I did suggest we build one engine many times, not a different engine.

The plan is an iron block, Cobra crank, main studs, H-Beam forged rods, Diamond pistons.
10:1 compression.

Zack

I wanted to clarify something:
Im not in this to make any $$$. I wont even handle any money if this goes through.
Thanks!

I would also be interested.. depending in the price. I just dropped 6500 into a blower but it would be nice to have a block ready to go... Please keep on VT... and post up the prices.

BTW I bought a set you your cintrol arms used they are great!

10:1 may require custom pistons. We might be better off with 5 cc dish at about 9.5:1. Why not check into two prices, a regular block with a 5 cc and a stroker block with 5cc.?

Strokers would need -9cc to maintain 10:1

True, an 11 or 12 would be closer to our stock compression.

+1. I agree with you Jim. Just want something that is dependable. When I'm out of warranty @ 70K miles or 7 years I'd like to have a blown motor ready to swap out with the stock motor.

The blocks are brand new.

In my honest opinion, when this web site started some 5 years ago, VT was on board at that time. I dont think they were the company then that they are now. With time, research and learning from mistakes or not, VT is an awesome company today and should not raise any red flags.

To each his own though

Why not ask the MM owner? RR/Suki.

I seem to remember he bought it from a used car lot and VT said it had been abused.

I've peaked around SVTP.com. Generally customers are happy. There were a couple of threads detailing some customers problems, but that is to be expected.

LOL funny he mentions that around the SVTP boards. Charlie did you see/read any of those god awful stories about MSX? I feel bad for all the guys who dumped $3500+ on engines from that and got engines soaked with oil/used crappy pistons!

Agreed.

Why do a GB on shortblocks from a non-vendor? I hear Lidio builds engines, and is already a vendor, so why not stop there first? Does DR build engines?

Just looking for ideas. Maybe this VT thing will work out..but I smell kick-backs and corruption all over this Zack :D
