View Full Version : Future Plans-Engine Replacement

My MM has turned 100k and I am starting to think about a replacement in the future. No problems at this point, I must be doing something right, but I always(mostly)plan as far in advance as possible. I have no mods and if that continues I would most likely just get a short block from MMR retain a cast crank and have the heads redone locally. If finances improve I would get a built short block with forged internals and possibly upgraded heads topped with a sc. What exactly will fit in the Marauder with no problems or a few problems? Aluminum or iron? Your thoughts and ideas please.
I don't want to start any of this....:argue:
WELL, I'M WAITING!!!

Forged internals are well worth the small extra expense.

Sounds like an additional buyer for the group buy.

GG- On N/A I think a forged crank is not required- pistons and rods for sure though.
Group Buy- VT wants your block I would want to keep mine for another project with my Son. Besides that I can only imagine where a group buy on such an expensive item would end up based on other group buys I have seen-they start out well intensioned and go astray. I would rather be the sole decision maker on this.
Thanks for the ideas so far- keep em :burnout: in
Use an iron block, it will save you thousands

How so? MMR wants about $700 addl. for Aluminum. Are there other issues? Do all 4.6 modular blocks just bolt in? are there other issues?
Thanks for your input!:)

Aluminum blocks cost tons of $$$ to machine because of all the special tools required.
An iron block is only 80 lbs more, much stronger and cheaper.
$700 bucks is $700 bucks.

Zack,
Is the Iron block IDENTICAL to our block ?
You know what I mean, water jackets, oil galleys, etc...
Is it only 80 lbs and $700 difference ???
I would have liked to save $700 on the Marauder price
to know I had an Iron Block.

100K miles......It ain't broken in good yet!!! :bows: :shake: :D
I can appreciate you making future arrangements for the inevitable but at 15K miles a year you may be 6+ years away from an engine failure??
Don't buy a replacement for something that ain't broke yet.....put your money (weekly/monthly) into a CD or savings and be ready for it when it happens....a new motor just sitting around will not get better with age and will lose value as it sits!!:mad2: Replacements will always be available!!
My $.02....

You make too much sense!...another idea-watch in your local newspaper "Bargain Corner" classified section, or local internet "Craigs List" for a good (and inexpensive) used engine. Tear it down to see how they are put together, and keep it for a spare.
