I'm posting this here rather than in the Garage Forum to hopefuly get more of a response. This issue has been brought up before:

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34150&highlight=headlights

and has been mentioned by Big Dog Jim several times. On my way home on the North East Extension (PA) my headlights and instrument panel lights shut off three times. Twice I pulled over onto the shoulder, messed around with the switch and the lights came back on within 20 seconds. The third time I had the fog lights on when the headlights cut off and continued driving (no one else on the road). The head lights came back on with no touching of the switch. I had no further incidents. This is the first this has happened in 100,000 miles.

Any suggestions? The LCM was mentioned before. Anyone else have this problem and was there a fix by the dealer?

The LCM is usually the culprit in these cases.

LCM internal relay failure is common on the 03 models. Causes the symptoms you have.

You can install a new LCM, but it will probably happen again in a few years.
A few CVN members have done a fix that uses an easy to find bosch-style auto relay mounted outside the LCM - best part is it will only cost you about $20 in parts
