Just buy a Ford Reman if you want a Cobra engine.
Good prices.

Thanx for your help guys! Can anyone tell me the exact difference between the Cobra and Mach 1 engines? And who prefers what and why?

If you do install a Cobra motor, your car will be a turd, cuz of the low compression.
If you put a Mach 1 engine in it, it will be just as weak as the MM engine.

You gotta get a motor built, of buy a used engine to replace it with.

Depends on your plans.

Plans on whether I SC it or not? Maybe (probably) in the future. What about dropping a whole engine/motor kit in from a SC Mustang, would that work?

It has been done and it is on the site. However, it would require more work than what you bargained for.

Well thank you because having to replace a motor with 34K was more than I bargained for! LOL. I don't want Anymore headaches at this point!! Are they buit any better though? Would it would be good to find one and use me intake and all on it? It doesn't even seem as though any Mechs know the difference between the Mach 1 engine and Cobra?

The cobra block is steel and has a 8.5:1 compression ratio.
The Mach 1 auto block is aluminum (like the MM) and has a cast crankshaft. The Mach 1 manual block has a forged crankshaft.
Both Mach 1 blocks use the same compression ratio as the MM.

Hope this helps.

BTW, the full cobra engine assy has been dropped into a MM however the frame has to be notched for the alternator clearance on the left side.

Dennis: I have heard mixed opinions on remans and that they are not as good as new. Do you think the bad news is true?

I bought a low mileage Cobra motor today. I will have it next week and hopefully have it installed within a week or two.

I think its like any thing, Sherman has one in his car, Jerry tuned it at my shop he is running consistent mid 11's, for the money its a good buy but you could always pull it apart and check every thing. The heads are now getting hard to find so as time goes on the price will go up and Ford will stop offering it, the price on a 03 Cobra twin fuel pump is now close to 500.00, as soon as they see a demand the price always goes up.

Hey buddy, How many miles does it have on it and may I ask what you paid for it? Is it a complete drop in as well?

Hope it wasnt from Florida, there's been a ring of 'Scam' Cobra motors for sale but do not exist.

Ford reman engines are usually pretty good, but they will be to stock spec.
You'll also get a pretty good warranty on a Ford reman.
Ford usually contracts with different companies for the work, and certifies them. That's where any variation comes in, but the parts used should all be the same origin.
