I figured since we're nationwide car-guys it might be a good idea to see if anyone has some leads for me in terms of my old Spitfire.
Right now my Spitfire sits waiting either a new body tub or substantial sheetmetal work. Had this car not been in the family for 30 years it wouldn't have been worth keeping.
As it sits right now, the doors, hood, and trunk lid are OK and/or salvageable. The body tub (firewall back on a spitfire) is in rough shape need floors, rockers, rear quarters, and rear valence. Wait - there isn't much left once you take away those!
It's got some good parts, actaully the trunk floor and rear floor are just fine, but, it's going to need so much work it may be best to find a replacement in better shape.
I'd prefer not to buy a whole car if possible, but I know that might be unavoidable - so it'd have to be a cheap car that is low on rust and otherwise a jalopy (maybe no engine/trans, no interior, etc.
I have a '65 Mk-II body, I bleieve a body tub from 62-68 will work. I konw MK-I and MK-II bodys are identical, the MK-III (starting in 68 or so) is slightly different but I think only in terms of how the bumpers attach and the front end's look, the actual body tub may be the same or very similar.
So anyway...just thought I'd see if anyone has any leads, I'm not in a hurry and I'm not actively working on this project but if a good body tub was found I would be interested.
I'd hope too it's less than $1,000.
I hope for a lot, I know!
I check ebay periodically but not religiously for this item, only seen a few leads pop up there...
