Did Chevy ever make a 350 T.P.I with a 700R4 in an '89 Camaro? If so, was it only available in the Iroc-Z package or what? The reason I'm asking because my g/f's sister's b/f wants to buy one and I don't want to see him get screwed over. Thanks.

That's what I thought too. I thought Chevy just did the 350ci in the '87 Iroc Z but I am unsure. The guy has an ad in Craiglist and he comes off very defensive about how he hates people e-mailing him asking him if it's really a 350 since he said he's had 7 of them blah blah. So I wanted to verify this so I can make an ass of him :D.

Yes they did in 87 & 88...It was an upgrade from the 305 TPI engine and had '5.7' badges on the left rear bumper. IIRC it was only offered with the automatic transmission.
Unfortunately, Chevy used the same tuned port intake manifold for the 350 as was on the 305, so the 350 was really choked in the upper rpms.
They were fun cars to WHUPP with my '85 5.0 Mustang as the owners thought that the 350 option would let them run with the 5.0 Mustangs.:D

So, this cannot be real then since it's an '89? And you said they were only offered in an automatic, my friend's older brother had an '87 Iroc Z with a 5 speed and t-tops.

87 Was only the first year that you could get the 350 again. They were avail. till to the LS1 package. They were only in the IROC-Z package and only with an auto 700R4. I had an 87 put 155,000 miles on it when I sold it. White with red interior and T-tops. My wife and I both still miss it. And I took more than one 5.0 mustang with it, if your going to have a stick you gotta know how to drive it!

Hey Raudermaster, If you could get the guy to give you the VIN or better yet the RPO code list. You could then decode the car and know exactly what came with the car from the factory. Look for the RPO code of L98 or B2L which would be the 350.
Here's the link to decode the VIN and RPO codes.

Thanks for your help guys, maybe I can weasel my way into giving him the VIN of it. I still call BS on the guy since he won't even put any engine shots up, AND because it's not an Iroc-Z.

The 5.7 was available prior to 89 with TPI and an auto in an Iroc and the Z-28.. The badge was on the rear bumper near the right tail light. Should say 5.7 TPI or something like that.. Richy

OK, am I the only one here who's feelings are hurt by using the term "old school" and the model year 89 in the same sentence?
I'm sure glad that my 89 LX convertible can't see my computer from where its parked under the carport!

I hear ya
to me "old school" would be the cars of the '60s and '70s. Check out my friends '67 Chevelle at HOT RODs pump gas drags in Memphis a couple weeks ago (this pass was 9.06 at 155 MPH)
