I was browsing around on www.tirerack.com today to see how much the bfg 255/55 kdw2 tire was cause I thought about picking up another set. It's not listed on the site anymore, can't find anything on it. Don't tell me they stopped making it cause I love this tire.

Anyone heard anything?

Wow this will suck if this is true.

Discount tire doesn't have them either.

The BFG site doesn't list them in their chart for KDW.

http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs/g-force-t-a-kdw/22.html

This could suck.

Just spoke with a Shannon at BF Goodrich and she told me that unfortunately the 255/55/R18 KDW2 has been discontinued since Dec 2006. What is out on the market is all that is left. When they're gone they're gone.

I explained to her the issue that us Marauder owners have with the OEM KDWS and she says that there is no replacement coming that she can see and that there is nothing in BFG's database that comes close.

Considering BFG won't make enough OEM sizes for us, and discontinues the next logical choice, my only recourse is to conclude that BFG could care less about Marauder owners.

I'm sure they pulled our tires so they can make them in 24" size. :puke:

Want to hook us up? I want to get another set to have as a spare.

I'm glad I posted this info up so for the ones that run them it's better to find this out now than when we really need that tire.

For clarification, is the KWD2's and the KDW's both discontinued?

Or just the KDW2's?

BTW, the KDW fronts are now more expensive than the rears. :(

I need fronts soon...

Mike.

BFG call's them KDW, we tend to refer to them as KDW2. The main reason is there was a KDW version 1 that was a different tread pattern but from what I gather that has been discontinued a while now and the "flame" pattern KDW v2 is what's out there.

just talked to tire rack, they have tons of the OEM's and have not been notified of any discontinuation of them

Guys Shannon said what's out on the market is it. Some Tire distributors might have more than others. THEY HAVE BEEN DICONTINUED SINCE DEC '06. I didn't believe it myself so I called BFG. Don't believe me call BFG yourself.

IMO the KDW is a much superior tire than the KDWS.

It's just not all-season (i.e. no "S" for snow).

Don't confuse the two though, they're very different even though the names are similar.

Dr Caleb what did these cost you GST inc if you don't mind sharing?

I'm down to 3 mm on my rears.

To clarify for the newbies..... This is the KDW2 also known as KDW NT with some vendors:
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f129/ckadiddle/MVC-572F.jpg
The tread pattern is rather distinctive and was referred to as "flame" tread pattern by the service writer at the dealership recently when I had to have one of the fronts replaced due to a big screw in the tire's shoulder. Took a week to get it in from his supplier. Now I know why.

Oi! IIRC, it came to about $380 for both back tires, GST and import duties. (no tire recycling tax!) That was the price delivered to my door. Probablly a hair less, now that the dollar is up.

I just got off the phone with the TR, first of all, a 255/55/18 KDW2 was never stock replacement tire for the Marauder, it is wider and would be ok for the rear, but it is no longer made, but they are still out there. Now the stock BFG 235/50/18 Front KDWS and the 245/55/18 Rear KDWS is still made and still is in stock

I can check in with my buddy and see what he can do. He works for a car dealer and can get them at a discounted price if we have enough. Just wondering how many would want some? I know I need two for my rear's and he was going to look into them for me. LMK how many I would need and I'll see what he can do.

Let me see how many he can get his hands on, and what size would we all want? This has to be a community thing, I'm not going to try to get 3 or 4 different sizes. I vote 255/55/18.
*Edit and also I went today to Town Fair Tire since my Dad needed tires for his truck, and I got priced for mounting and everything for 2 rears was only $387. They also have between 20-80 in their warehouse because I saw the computer screen when he looked it up. I wonder if they would sell them to me.

Sucky and short lived or not....it beats riding on a rim.

Yes the KDW(2) is not the OEM or stock replacement tire.

Right now the ONLY tire that can replace the stock rears in their identical size is the OEM KDWS from BFG. No one up to this point makes a 245-55-18 tire aside from BFG in the KDWS.

The KDW(2) tire at 255-55-18 is a popular alternative as this size is close to our original tire diameter.

The sad part is that there will not be any other KDW(2) sizes that will work appropriately on the rear since the 255-55-18 is discontinued.

This is sad because the KDW(2) holds the following characteristics compared to the KDWS OEM tire:

- Better traction in dry and wet
- Doesn't turn brown and look like a round turd on your rim
- Appears to exhibit better treadwear characteristics
- Has the neat tread pattern which some like (some may not)

All in all I feel it's a superior tire unless you want:

- To keep with the OEM solution
- Need all season performance
- A sub-par tire (yes I said it)

I'm not saying the KDWS is a bad choice, in fact when they're in stock it's probably the most cost effective choice compared to other options. But at the same time, I think you don't have to look to far to find a superior tire that will work, the HARDEST part is getting all-season performance in another solution - for that it's still only KDWS.

I do not believe BFG will discontinue the Marauder KDWS rear tire anytime soon. They know very well that they make the only tire in this size and may have a committment to make these for a number of years from Ford. (Actually that I would be curious about.)

A year ago when they were scarce I think the main reason was the age of the Marauder mixed in with the poor wear characteristics of that tire, most of the Marauders on the road had probably shed their rear tire skin and there was a run on demand.

They upped production, people found other solutions that worked better, and many have learned how to coax more treadlife from the KDWS with different air pressures, so right now they're in stock. :)

The good news in all this is that there are other options in the 255-55-18 size but many did like the KDW(2) in this size.

Just so everyone knows... I will take 2 rears if anyone can work it out... I am currently on the Eastern Shore and I have asked locally with no progress. I usually deal with NTB but I have yet to get back to Alexandria and check with them. It seems like I am going to have to move on this faster than I expected. - Chris

Anyone know a good long term storage method to avoid dryrot?

Fill your house-hold bathtub with 5w20 oil and keep the tires in it. Rotate them weekly...

My friend has a 300C. Are you saying that the tires from a 300C can run on a 300a front and back?

No rubbing in the front?

Not throwing off the speedometer as a result of different size rear?

Are the Marauder rims the same width as those of the 300C? (I want to know if 225/60-18 will safely fit our 8" wide rim.)

I would really like to have other options for tires since BFG may one day kill our KDWS just like they killed the KDW2 (AKA KDW NT) or become back ordered like they did last year.
