This is a belated tribute to an American soldier who gave the last full measure of devotion on 4 April 2003 during an obscure battle action in Iraq near the Baghdad International Airport. He was awarded the The Medal of Honor posthumously on 4 April 2005 during a White House ceremony. :flag:

The link here >>>>> http://www.sptimes.com/2004/webspecials04/medalofhonor/default.shtml tells the story.

You can read the actual medal citation here >>>>> http://www.army.mil/medalofhonor/smith/battlescape/index.html

SFC Paul R. Smith was a member of B Company, 11th Engineer Battalion. My avatar pays tribute to this soldier who gave all to save his men.

I was a member of the 11th Engineers from 1972-1975. My son is now serviing the the same unit some 35 years later. "Jungle Cats Forward".

All soldiers desearve more credit, both from us and Congress than they are receiving. (My son is heading to Iraq, he is in the final stages of training in NC and 29 Palms before heading to the "sandbox" in October.) WE MUST SUPPORT ALL OF THE TROOPS regardless of what are congressmen and senators are saying. Regardless of our personal feeling about the war!!! Opps, it's getting too policital here!
