View Full Version : Dilemma with A/C

My A/C has started acting up. The problem is that it will blow where it wants to go.....not were I want it to go. I put the A/C on max or automatic and it will blow normal, then when I start to accelerate or go up an incline I can hear a door behind the dash, (lower passenger side) like a creeky door in an old horror movie, and it blows out the defrost area at the windshield, then it moves to the floor and blows out there, all the while the climate control center still reads the same. I push other buttons on the climate control center and the display changes but the flow of the air does not. I have to turn the a/c off and wait to hear the door creek then turn it back on and get it to blow out the vents. If I am cruising with the windows down and the climate control unit is off, I can still hear the door moving.

I had another member help me by phone and did a diagnostic check on the head unit. It checked out OK. He said that I may have a bad door or a vacuum leak. I am out of warranty so no help there. He did offer to help me take the dash apart and fix the problem to save some money. I do also have another option. I have mechanical break down insurance with a $250.00 deductible.

Does anyone here have any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Thanks,

Mike

You got a vac leak somewhere. Could be under dash in in engine compartment. Could be totally unrelated to AC, but leaking the vac needed to control the doors.

Visually inspect all tubes, etc in the engine compartment for disconnects, breaks, wear thrus, etc.

Get a length of tubing. Hold one end to your ear. Move the other end around the engine area. Listen for the suckage.

Chances are, you'll find a tube off somewhere.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a vac line that runs behind the glove box and down the pas. side kick panel and into the engine bay. Others have found the leak there. Good luck -- ALOHA

Suckage -- That's a funny one
