Unusual I think for a three on the tree LTD, usually that was for the Custom model. Cool find.

Is it green?
Maybe pastel green with a forest green vinyl top?

I had a '71 in that color combination, what was Ford thinking?:P

Here it is :
http://www.carad.com/status/ShowroomViewVehicle.cfm?listin g=8987646

After reading the 1970 dealer brochure for the car, 3-speed manual w/ the 351 V8 was standard eguipment.

This is a very nice piece.

I traded my wife's 1977 Triumph TR7, title for title, & he provided the transport company. I thought it was to good to be true.
I've had the car for three weeks now.
All it needs is good detailing & some fresh tires.

This has to be a very rare piece being ordered w/out any options.

I first thought the vinyl top was an option, but the brochure doesn't list it as an option. It just states "w/ available vinyl top".

My late grandfather ordered a '70 Broughm 4 door hardtop in yellow with black top and cloth interior. All he ordered for it was an automatic and limited slip rear end. He traded it in for a '78 LTD after the frame rusted & broke.

The ad isn't listed anymore.
"available vinyl top" would mean that the vinyl top was an option.

I asked if the car was green, because it seems whenever a pristine original low mileage car is found, they are usually green. Don't know why thwt is.

At least Ford coordinated green with green.

The chooser of colours for General Motors must have been color blind.

Mustard yellow exteriors with green interiors, for example.

I'll have to read the brochure again, but it didn't list the vinyl top under options ???
Maybe it was a no cost option?

I'm going to place an order here www.martiauto.com.
$220.00 for thr elite package..........ouch.

I wonder if that is also the price to locate the VIN for my grandfather's LTD.

Brian it may well be. They have all of Ford's records on vehicle orders from the '50s, 60's and '70s, from what I've read. If you call Ford archives they will refer you to that place.

Very nice. Did the seller just have it on display there or does he own a wheel shop?

I like how second owners always refer to their car as "one owner" LOL

This is a one-owner vehicle. The mileage on this vehicle is accurately represented. It appears that the previous owner smoked in this automobile, but it can be detailed to help remove any odors.

He tells me he owns AutoLine of Norfolk & the Rim shop.
He said if he put 22's on it & a big stereo he could sell it all day long, but he said he didn't want to do it to that car.

Now that Ive seen the pics I have to say verry cool car. You look at that car as big as it is and then see the three pedals and its kinda shocking. I wonder why Ford would have a three on the tree Windsor? Gotta be rare. Anyway, I wouldnt change a thing, just drive it and enjoy it!

Thanx.

I figured it was a Windsor, but how can you tell?
From what I read the Windsor has 5 bolts on the valve cover & the Cleveland has 8.
This engine has 6.
I did read if the radiator hose goes into the intake, then it's a Windsor.

Also, why 2 different 351's, eveything in the dealer brochure just states 351.
How was it decided who got the bigger Cleveland ?
Was it a mid-year production thing?

351 Windsor Thermostat mounts to the Intake Manifold.
351 Cleveland Thermostat mounts to the Engine Block.

The Ford dealer I worked at from 1969 to 1976 had a doctor/M.D. customer that always (every year?) ordered a new 4 door LTD with a six cylinder and a 3 speed manual transmission. As I recall, the last one I saw him in was a dark green '71 or '72.

The Dr. was in line for service, and the service writer mentioned to me it was the last year he would be able to get the 300/I6 in an LTD.

Thanx RoyLPita, for the link.

I rec'd the Deluxe Report from MartiAutoWorks.

It's pretty impressive the info they can provide w/ just the VIN#.

Here are the Statistics.

This car was one of:

8,580 w/ this paint code.
124 w/ these paint/trim codes.
209 w/ these engine/transmission codes.
33,645 w/ black vinyl top.

now you made me dig up my marti report
1971 2 dr 429 4v floor shift/ buckets

15146 with this paint code
138 with this paint/trim code
1585 with these engine/transmission
4121 ordered from this DSO
4117 with power side windows
for the 1971 LTD 2-door hardtop

that 70 is awesome. reminds me of one I saw at the Harrah's collection before it was sold off. dont change a thing.

makes me want to restore mine now...

windsors are basically a tall-block, stroked 289/302
clevelands are unique 1970-74 small block with great heads, related to the 351m-400
both share vin code H and were mostly interchangable in most platforms during 70-74. the 351m also vin code H was thrown in to the mix for 73-74, and 75-up the 351m and 351w were aften confused as well

the big six for the full-size was not a 300, but a 240. same engine family, looks the same, nobody even remembers it nowadays. production ended in 72 I believe.

240, and not 300? I think you are correct, and I was wrong. I guess they made the 300 standard in the F-Series pickups when they quit using the 240.
