I wanted to know if anyone has tried or drove a car with a gearvendors over/under drive kit. It's said that it split gears to keep you in your RPM powerband. At $2,500 would it be an asset to a modified trans. It is also supposed to turn our vehicles into 8-speed transmissions.

This came up a while ago but most members felt that the $2500 could be better spent improving the power band!

Has anyone used it or knows if it really works. I've seen it in a magazine article but I didn't know if it would be worth the cash.

It will not clear the trans tunnel.

You are better off installing a Turbo 400 with the gear vendors.

Looks interesting, I often wondered what would happen if you used a dual speed transfere case with a car instead of a 4x4 and better gear ratios, one to get going fast one to keep going fast. This looks like a better version.

The thing I like about it is that you can use lower gear ratios and still get a final drive ratio for saving gas. That would help a lot of you guys runnig 4.10's. Plus it would be nice to have 8-speed trans like a Lexus. Just another reason to have a Marauder.

this is all so interesting, but can it be done?

What Zack said. I asked the same question when I first got here. Emailed the company and they "claim" it will fit, (there is no direct application for our cars), but have to have a modified drive shaft to make it work. Too much modification for my taste in a very critical area of the car. Just my 2 cents.

There seems to be a consensus the MM should have come with a 4.10 from the factory. A GV overdrive would probably get a 4V 4.6 below it's torque peak, since we already have an O/D 4th gear. It would be too low an rpm for efficient operation @ 70 mph. Might work well with a 100 mph cruise speed.

But the unit is suppose to split the gears. Imagine. A marauder that shifts from 1st to 1st over drive. Each over drive gear is like a stepping stone with: less RPM drop off,the ability to hug power range 3500-6000RPM, increased fuel mileage and the ability to increase power.

I've seen this installed on TRUCKS project COPPERHEAD. The most popular vehicle made on the show and it had a gear vendors unit. The truck had to have made over 800 hp with THE FIRST 572 BIG BLOCK and 2 stages of nitrous. Guys if I had the money this would be a mod I would check out.

And yes you have to have the driveshaft shortened to fit the unit behind the trans. The only neative I know about the product is that you have to change its fluid separatly from the trans. But 2,500 for 4 more gears is a deal. So do the preventative maintenance.
