By lowering the air ride system does it also shorten the shock travel ?
Does this also increase the chance of damageing the air bags?

No. The shocks can travel the same distance they always did. If you lower it much you'll want to replace the stops. Energy suspension part 9.9101. This will not effect airbag longevity.
