i havent been to the track(yet), but i just dont feel my car is fast enough. im thinkin of going ahead and gettin 4.10s(i know you guys said so)and taken out the 3.73s, and gettin headers. Im just wanderin is that going to be fast enough for me? I know alot of you guys on here say that 4.10s was the best mod for the buck and will whip your head back on take off so im thinkin thats the way to go because the 3.73s didnt make any difference(that i can tell). How about headers? what kind of increase will i get out of them?

You know, I'm not sure this ever really goes away. When I drove my Dad's 15 second Monte SS in the mid eighties, I thought that it needed to be a tad faster. When I built a mild 350 and put it in a 79 Z28, it turned low 14's and I thought ... it needs to be a tad faster. When I took our 86 Buick Regal T-type with some minor mods and got it into the high 12's, I thought ... it needs to be a tad faster. When my father finished the frame off restomod of his original 68 Mustang GT 428 Cobra Jet ... we took it out to the track and it rattled of 11.10's and we both thought ... it needs to be a tad faster. Now I wonder when Kenny Bernstein rattles off a 3.9 at 300+ mph, he doesn't think .... it needs to be a tad faster.

For me, low thirteens and high 12's seems to be the boundary for most cars between practical drivability and breaking things everytime you mash the gas.

Personally ... the Marauder's mid-15 second capability from the factory is too slow especially when a Honda Accord V6 can rattle a mid-14 second quarter. As I mentioned, my Dad's bone stock 84 Monte Carlo SS with its pathetic L-69 305 V8 rated at 180 hp could rattle off 15.20's right off the lot. Mid 14's would be respectable for the Marauder and would make it feel "peppy." Low 14's would be pretty satisfying and would allow it to run with earlier Cobras, Bullitts, etc. Mid 13.'s would be ideal for my taste. That would be a quick feeling Marauder that would be a practical daily driver. That said ... it would only make it as quick as a bone stock Mustang Gt. :(

I've run 12.9s with my Marauder and I definitely think that:

"It needs to be a tad faster!"

Barry has a good formula, check his mods

I'm only thinking that when I'm going 30 mph and floor it and nothing happens for a couple of seconds and then it takes off slowly. However when I'm at a light I must be in the minority as I think it is just about right. Surprises the heck out of everyone else at the lights too.

Headers alone will not change the SOTP feel much, a complete exhaust with 2 1/2" pipe, you should feel the difference.

I thought my car was crazy fast when I first got the blower, will break free the rears with a punch from any speed below 30 mph....now two years later I don't think the car is fast enough so I think I am the one that is crazy now.

I would just caution against mods you may have to toss later, in order to step up to the next level of craziness.

For instance, if you're eventually going to bolt on a supercharger, then low gears may not be a wise choice.

Sit down and consider what you might want to do, then make the mods that will enhance that goal. Gears and a tune will give you the most bang for the buck in the short term, but don't forget about handling and brakes.

Joe Walsh and Barry are the champs, when it comes to non-supercharged performance, if that's where you're headed. :twocents:

He must be referring to that annoying sweet spot where you put the pedal down and it wont downshift.

No tune :( Would a tune change the shift pattern or should I just go with a 4.10?

Step 1 - BUY A TUNE!!!!!!!

Step 2 - Install 4.10's

Step 3 - Make sure you did Steps 1 & 2!!!

Step 4 - IF "It needs to be a tad faster!", ask this question again!

Save your money or get a loan and just go with a supercharger.

You'll be glad you did. Just imagine an additional 150-200 horsepower to the rear wheels. It'll satisfy your "go-faster-meter" a lot longer than the other mods put together. :D

Just a little background info on the 15.5 sec. stock Marauder. The stock Marauder can do the 1/4 mile in 15.5 seconds; also in 14.5 sec. this has been documented here, today we find ourselves looking for a 9 second MM. so we forget or where not around for the early accomplishments that you won't see in the timeslip page because most owners modded the car and will post their best effort.

Plenty of bonestock MM's ran 14's, also plenty ran 15's. The biggest obstacle to the bonestock MM running consistently in the mid 14's was the incredibly poor PCM program it came loaded with. In a word it was crap.

My personal experience and that of other owners is that simply changing the program will produce a consistent mid 14's car, again this happened in Florida in less than ideal weather. No parts were changed in my car simply the program, it produced a best 14.4 and a pocketful of 14.5's timeslips. This is in my opinion an excellent time for 4200 lb car with as much room and luxury as the MM. offers.

well said....one of the biggest problems i have is at work(being in a dealer with a bunch of car guys)is they always compare my car to the 03 cobra or the 03 lightning or the 03 mach 1 etc...so my pocket full of 14.5-14.7 timeslips looks really slow..got to give credit where its due and 4300 lbs, 4 doors,281 cubes running these times is great in my opinion:)

i dont like the 30mph slump when the gas is mashed but it is still FATS enough for me. when i get at the light and take off, i am quick enough for a big car, i take my best friends 99 z28 auto with same "mods" all the way down, but i just enjoy hearing the flowmasters roar and having the car pull... it doesnt need to be a drag car for me but it can always go "just a tad faster"
