My question is a two part:

1. Does anyone know if we have 28 or 31 spline axles.....

2. Is the factory trac-loc carrier strong enough for dragstrip blasts or should an auburn or ford-racing posi unit go in its place?

As always thanks in advance!!!

1) 28

2) Like anything else, it'll only take so much abuse...doing a few ¼-mile blasts once in a while shouldn't hurt it...going to the drags every weekend? Like the "Capitol One" commercial says: "What's in YOUR wallet?"

I kinda figured that may be the case,

if you ask me any stupid question about a mustang (a car Ive never owned) I probably know the answer, but ask me a question about my MM and I have no clue. Popularity is indeed a double-edged sword.

ditto...28 spline is correct.

IMHO, the OEM trac-loc will handle almost everything you throw at it, under 300 RWHP/350 Ft Lb RWTQ. I suggest you look into beefing up the rear main caps with a stud kit and a rear end girdle. It's a lot cheaper to add this extra support now, that it will be if something breaks loose. When rear ends go, they seem to take a lot with them.

If you plan on supercharging, IMHO the stud kit and girdle are necessary, or, you will have a failure.

Does Dennis R. carry both the stud kit and the rear end girdle?

IMHO

Stock MM your ok with stock parts at the track for a long time, the engine doesn't make enough lowend torque to hurt anything in the drivetrain.

With what has become to be known as RPP stage one,I'd start saving for a 31spline dif. and install with the gear change, but you may never really need it.

Add a torque converter 31spline.Rear end Girdle.

Supercharger and beyond....31 spline.Full boggy rear end,welded tubes,braced housing,billet bearing caps.Remember we're pushing over 4000lbs from a dead stop.

All of the above assumes your racing the car at the track and using sticky tires at which ever power level requires it and your a real track junkie.100-500 passes a year.
I'm also assumeing you don't want to walk home.
