Anyone build these things any more? I have SCJ pistons, heads, intake, headers, water pump, oil pan, valve covers, 860 double pump/dual feed mechanical carb.

Don't know what to do with all this stuff. Been sitting - oiled and covered for too many years. I know I will (unfortunately) never get back to building the engine agian.

I had built a 400, unique and torquey. Some parts interchange, some do not.

Let me know if anyone needs any of this stuff.

(Maybe If I build the engine, I could trade it for a Marauder blower....) Nah....

Why not eBay them? You could get some good cash for those on there most likely.

I probably will. Just checking to see if anyone in the "Family" wants them first.

Umm... none of that will bolt onto a 351W motor. In fact, are the heads really SCJ? If so, that would would be either a 428 (FE) or 429 (385 series) heads. If it's the latter, they won't bolt onto anything else either. The only part that interchanges between the 335 series (351C, 351M 400) and the 385 series is the distributor.

Regardless, put it all on eBay and let the bidding begin!

Contrary to what John says, I had a '73 Montego GT with a 351 SCJ Cleveland. It came with a high stall converter and an abortion of a spread bore Motocraft carb. I understand the '72 model was very fast, all mine did was gulp fuel due to the 8.5:1 compression ratio. It was a terrific looking car though. Fuel economy was 5mpg.

One of the mechanics where I bought it said, "take that ^%#$& Carburetor and throw it as far as you can, then go pick it up, and throw it again.

We swapped out the converter, and changed the intake to accept a Holly 650 with mechanical secondaries. That livened it up, quite a bit, and fuel consumption went to 16MPG.

No Mike, there was never a 351 SCJ. There was a 351C, Boss 351, 351HO and a 351 CJ. But never a SCJ.

Essentially a Super Cobra Jet is a CJ car ordered with the Drag Pack option. This option is identified on the door data sticker as an axle code of V or W. What that gave you was an rear gear ratio of 3.91:1 (V) or 4.30:1 (W). When this option was ordered ($155 for the 3.91 or $207 for the 4.30) it upgraded the following

I -AM- right. Just as I said, only the 428 and 429 came in a SCJ configuration. The 351 never had it.

And thank you for providing the proof. As you can see in your picture above, they only reference the 429 in the right column.

Anyway, only the pistons are SCJ, rated at 13.5:1 compression with closed CC heads. Mine are open chamber, high vol cc heads.

I believe mine was 11.8:1.

I think a lot of the 335 series parts swaped out. All external, except intake from 400 (too wide) Oil pump is same, cam, timing chain & gears, lifters (not pushrods),

Dragcity,

I have a friend here locally that is into Aussie Falcons which ran 302 and 351 Cleveland engines. If you could tell me what you are asking for everything I'll ask him if he is interested.

The engine was originally out of a 1977 Mercury Grand Marquis Station Wagon, then went into a '75 LTD, out of that, machined and built for racing and dropped into '78 Thunderbird.

As for a price, whatever.... I can take pictures of anything he may be interested in. Whatever is fair. Let me know what he may wnat/need...

The headers are custom Hooker, specific to Thunderbird, LTD II, Cougar and Ranchero. (Power steering and A/C applications)

My 14 year old Son wants me to re-build it and put it in an old car for him, but there is NO way I am putting him behind the wheel of a 450 Hp engine....with the amount of torque the 400's put out....
