Let's hope it is as good as the remake of "Gone in 60 Seconds"

We're doomed if Brad Pitt is playing Mcqueen. I just hope they use a good 'Stang in that.

This is great news. I hope the chase scene is as long and as good as the one in the original bullitt movie.

Booooooooooooo! Screw all the younger generations, if they don't know the movie than it's their own fault. Leave this cult classic alone!!!! Now everyone will know about it and know nothing about the original because you know the original is always the better one.
Another Die Hard is great
A remake of Christine is coming out in 2009... cool
BUT LEAVE THIS ALONE. It'll probably be worse than Blues Brothers 2000.

maybe they can make the car chase more exiting in this one

The link isn't really clear that this movie has been green lighted, even though the title indicated it has
After reading our post, Ford got in touch Brad Pitt's management, who don't know anything about the remake or Pitt's involvement. The credibility of this rumor's source, Monsters and Critics, was also called into question.
So which is it?

They better use the real sounds from the cars just like the original.

No remake is ever as good as the original, but like all classics, they will almost all be remade at some point. I honestly think that Mark Wahlberg would be a better candidate.
This would be cool because there is already rumor that Ford will be releasing a 2008.5 Bullitt with a forged 450hp engine.....so I guess that would be the car they would use? The 2001 Bullitt is nice...but not great,.

Bullitt is the most overrated "classic" of all time. The chase scene was brilliant, clever, awesome. The movie (story and plot) itself is pretty weak.
One of the reasons the chase scene worked was because the music dropped out as soon as the Charger hit the gas and the ambient sound was the only thing heard for the duration of the chase. That will never happen again.

I thought the remake of Gone in 60 seconds was awefull. I'm surprised that the movie actually stuck to the DVD. Ditto for Blues Brothers 2000. That one stunk so bad I had to open the windows and air out the house after watching that bomb.
A remake of Death Race 2000 would be cool though.

It's happening. Universal starts production in Canada very soon. Paul W.S. Anderson directing. I've seen the drawings of the cars - they are awesome. Mostly all muscle cars, including a GT500KR, built up with armor plating, chain guns, crazy stuff. Very cool. Hope it works...
Vanishing Point. Gone in 60 Seconds. The Blues Brothers. Miami Vice. The remakes of these movies all had one thing in common... they sucked big time.
Pitt as cool as McQueen? No way. The movie will be full of pyrotechnics and impossible stunts. One more icon trashed in the name of making a profit. Didn't Chad have to sign off on this?

IMHO, they can remake this movie as many times as they want, but they will never come close to duplicating the sound of the Charger R/T 440 used in the original. :)

The chase scene will suffer because the new Charger doesn't have hubcaps to lose!

Your absolutely right. McQueen had that stoic face that exuded strength with sophistication. :coolman:
Maybe that new James Bond would have been good for this role?
