I got my '04 back from the dealership. No Charge.
"Replace Broken Stub Shaft" plus the general clean and flush, etc.
They say everything else is fine in there.

I would like to thank Dennis Reinhart for PMing me and calling me to offer help, suggestions and parts. I was really impressed.

I asked the dealership if I could have some of Dennis's goodies installed while they had it apart but they said they can only use factory parts.
I will hook up the Xcal 2 next. The factory tune sucks after having it tuned properly for a couple years!

Thanks again Dennis!!

Have you done any high speed (WOT) 3-.4 upshifts? This is what hurts the stub shaft.

That shaft is notorious on a 4-2 downshift to pass. That's exactly what happened to Buck. I've held both in my hands (OEM and Art Carr) and you can TOTALLY tell a difference!

Oh boy, this is not what I wanted to hear. Are these "downshifts breaking major hard parts" problems going to be an issue on a totally stock MM, or only modified stuff? If I have to worry about passing someone with a stock MM I might as well buy a different car... please tell me these durability problems are for boosted cars?

The answer is to pop your car out of OD, then mash it. The shaft in question is the size of a 5/8" bolt. It ain't very big to handle that much torque all of a sudden.

Buck's car is bone stock with 10K on the clock.

This has been know for a LONG time, but with all the newbies, I guess it's surfaced again.

Truly, one shouldn't be attempting to pass while in OD in ANY car.

Most newer cars are smart enough that you shouldn't have to worry about this, apparently Ford had not come that far with these transmissions. Shoot!

Rich,

Great to see you, your daughter and Pete Saturday! He's pretty in white, isn't he! Twyla was too.
I wonder why I never heard (OR didn't pay attention to) the 'don't kick it from OD to 2nd' thing?
I am sure I've done it many times. I guess I did it once too many times.
No hurry on the CDs. I have always wondered how we looked and sounded on the New Smyrna Speedway Track that night! Your MM is looking very cool. What all have you done under the hood?

Buck's MM has mufflers deleted, CAI and DR's tune....ALMOST bone stock. ;) And he loves to stomp on it to hear the exhaust roar. ;)
