Go to a motorcycle shop.

Take this info along...

* 13.99 or quicker must have Snell K98, 2000 or 2005 helmet.

You should be able to get one for under 100 bucks. I got a custom colored helmet with a visor for $138 which meets NHRA rules.

Thanks for that info. I was beginning to think I needed a helmet to race. I doubt without 4.10s and a TC that I'll even break 15.00

I've got a 2xl open face Geforce helmet, SA2005 rating. I'll bring it up.

Just one note on this, you might want to ensure you get an SA rated helmet, motorcylce shops may only carry "M" or Motorcycle rated helmets. I'm not sure what the differences are, but some tracks can be picky and will specify an SA and may not allow all M rated helmets.

Seems like most of the time it's not an issue unless you have a picky track or tech inspector.

It may be a non-issue but I seem to recall something in the rules regarding SA vs M ratings. Set me striaght if needed. :)

Those are NHRA rules. The track could be stricter (is that a word?).

I bought a helmet that matched my paint job just to have. I'm sure you'll be int he 14's, but probly not 13's. For under a hundred bucks, a helmet is just a good thing to have.

And that my depend on the track. I have had uber-picky tech guys pull the tag out of the INSIDE padding of the helmet I have and still tell me it was good to go.

If they are following NHRA rules, my post above holds true. Either way, they're not going to toss you for a minor helmet rating when you're barely breaking 13.99 to begin with, especially in our big arse full-frame cars.

Without 4.10s and a TC? Thanks for the encouragement! I'll need a lot of beginners luck, its been 32 years since I last raced on a track. :help:

The patterns have changed a bit (they change every year), but mine is a lot like this one:

There's a CAM "TEAM" helmet that I donated. Joe Walsh has it just now, but all are welcome to make use of it. It's SNELL and DOT approved with full face and jawbone protection, and in size XL.

Check with Joe.

OH, Yeah, ask him to clean out the mouse turds, first, from it being stored in his garage all this time.

Joe's probably on his honeymoon this week. The only helmet he needs is not DOT or NHRA approved.

A better investment would be a rib protector. I have taken many rib cage shots from the "opposing team" over the past 32 years. ;)

He shouldn't need a helmet anymore.

Well you never know what there trying to tell our kids these days. Maybe the smurfs had some subliminal message going there.

Since this is a car site and this topic relates more to the back seat than the front. Did the Smurf's have a car? If so, I'll bet it was Blue.

Hi guys,
Sorry for the late reply, Charlie clued me in to this thread....
I will bring Mike's donated CAM helmet with me on Thursday for anyone who is interested in using it for the Drag Racing event on Friday.
(I won't be drag racing on Friday, as I'll have used all my vacation days with Thursday's breakfast and Picnic event)

The helmet is in great condition...NO mouse turds that I know of....and you won't look like a 'smurf' while wearing it.;)
