A couple years ago I went to the local Dodge dealer, wanted either a Hemi GTX quad cab pick-up they had or a Magnum wagon. Test drove the truck, loved it, didn't test drive the wagon because they tried upping the price on both while I sat there. Claimed the prices on thier website were a couple grand too low "on accident". So I left, and THIS is the commercial that popped into my head while I was driving home. Googled Marauder, found one, bought it 3 days later. Then I get a call from the Dodge dealer:
"We want to put you in that Hemi GTX truck!"
"I bought a Marauder yesterday."
"Why do you want to drive something everyone else has?"
"Have you ever seen a Marauder?"
"(...pause...)It's a motorcycle."
"Yes... I bought a motorcycle." Click.

LOL. That is the funniest story in the world. No one knows really what it is, and I'm willing to bet some F/L dealers might just think it's an appearance package GM.

In the dealers defense, it IS ALSO a motorcycle

I can believe that>>>Another contributing factor as to the downward spiral of ford in general is the lack of product knowledge on the sales persons part.:shake:

When I was there I told the sales dude the price on the truck didn't match the price on thier website. I swear to God, this is what he said: "We have a website?" I should have left right then.

Don't cuz the only one there is Jake. I'm doing mortgages down in Federal Hill...Had to get out of there...From what I'm told by one of the sales mgrs there, John, Ford is looking to either sell or close that store all together. Heritage is looking at it now.

Surprisingly, I bought my MM from a Chevy dealer, and they ALL knew everything about the car. Unless they checked to see why it was different and memorized everything lol.

I never new there was a Marauder commercial. I rarely see Grand Marquis commercials and never any for Crown Victorias. I did see some Crown Victoria commercials in the early '90s when the "bubble car" came out. I have one, a '93 Crown Victoria with slightly over 100k. It's a beautiful seafoam green with gray bumper trim all the way around and a saddle interior.

Somehow I found out about the Marauder in 2003 and received the Speed channel test drive show on DVD (before I new there was a Speed channel episode). I didn't get one then because of the extra 10k cost premium.

I started looking to buy a used Marauder and found out that they come in silver, blue and maroon. I have a DTR. It had only depreciated by a little more than the cost premium.

My '04 Marauder maroon with a charcoal interior, rear spoiler, short overhead console, no open roof, no cd changer, heated seats & mirrors, pedal adjust, traction control, no button to open the fuel door (my 93 has one), no driver memory about the seat and pedal adjustments (remember those with Marquis?), trunk light, no hood light, no console light, Marauder floor mats, rubbery looking gold Marauder letters in the back bumper, dark window tinting on all windows save the front one. The deal maker was that it was still new with only 1273 miles. It has 7200 now, still less than the lowest milage (10k) for sale on cars.com.

As far as selling good things without advertising, Hewlett Packard does it with the OpenVMS operating system. It used to owned by Digital Equipment Corportation, then Compaq and now HP. It gets no advertising. However, there was an internet only news event where HP blew up a computer center to show that the OS could survive with true clustering between different sites. OpenVMS also has very few security holes and doesn't need frequent patching like Windows and Unix. I've added this last off-topic little blurb because I've been an OpenVMS system administrator for the last 20 years.
People in the newsgroup comp.os.vms have the same strong affection for their interests as do the members of this group.

On the point of salesmen:
Overheard at Ford Dealership "Well, if you are going to be towing, you can go with the 5.4 gas engine - that's the 351 - or with the diesel engine....Well, some people just like having a diesel". Can you imagine??? Guy has been at the dealership as long as I've been going there and he doesn't even know that a 351 isn't even being built anymore! Thinks this is what the 5.4 is. Also doesn't know that a turbo diesel, if you are hauling heavy loads over long distances, is going to pay for its premium price in very short order. SAD!
Also had a real loser at another dealership tell me that the Fusion V-6 didn't need a manual because it was just as fast on a track as a manual car. Love to know how he came to that conclusion since its a test that simply can't be performed. Again, just sad!
