We took my two girls to the Harry Potter party at Hastings (a bookstore) the Friday night before the book started selling. I thought it was silly, but you gotta make the kids happy. My wife went all out getting them fixed up in costumes, which again, I thought was silly. My two daughters won first and second place in the costume contest. All silliness removed.

9yo daughter won first place, which was a free copy of the book. 4yo daughter won second place, which was a gift basket of HP crap and the right to purchase the very first book sold at the store. That was way cool, as we didn't have to wait behind the 500 (not an exaggeration!) other people waiting to buy the book. I was a proud poppa! My 9yo even got interviewed and made it on TV.
