I know we have a few Dream Theater fans here...new album has been out since June. I've listened to it several times, it has some good stuff on it. But as a whole, I'm not 100% where I stand comparing this to previous releases.

Any DT fans here have the new record and what do you think of it?

Yes I'm trying to catch up to Dominic's number of music threads. :)

No, I do not have the new album but love Octavarium. It could well be in the top five of all time for me. It's funny, I play the guitar and think Petrucci is alone between Yngwie and the rest of the pack. His playing is not prominent on Octavarium, but I loved it anyway . . .

I'll have to listen to it and see if I want it or not!

I'm also a big Petrucci fan.

The album has some good songs, but a few of them I'm not liking, it seems like they've been watered down for radio or something. They are on a new label this album, that may have changed things during production.

The song "Constant Motion" sounds SO MUCH like Metallica...*sigh* and in the video Myung's bass is only a 5string and Portnoy looks bored on the drums...yep they have a music video for it: http://www.dreamtheater.net/news_dreamtheater.php#cmvideo

They should just do Metropolis Pt III for the next album. :) Metropolis pt 2 (circa 2000) was one of my favorite albums of their, and hey it all started with the original Metropolis song from Images and Words, 1993 and this was good stuff! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNp4tMcpM10

Compare that live perofrmance to Constant Motion IMO some of the new songs are lacking.

Oh dude, that kicksass! That might be enough for me >right there< to go out and buy that album. I agree, definite touchs of the Hatfield vocals in there as well!

Thanks for the turn-on,
