I've seen some other threads about wipers and headlights having problems, so I thought I might see what anyone might say about my issues. I bought my MM in October '05, and started having issues in May '06. Problems include:

Headlights no longer turn on with wipers (but I'd prefer they didn't anyway)
Wipers occasionally turn on by themselves and have no specific frequency, seems like they time themselves randomly
My delay doesn't work properly: 1 sec works, 5 sec runs as 1 sec, 10 sec does not work, 20 sec runs as 30 sec, 30 sec works
Occasionally the wipers do not work at all unless in top speed
When situation in #4 occurs, washer does not work either unless wipers are already in high speed
Currently the fuse in the panel under the dash is kept out of its spot unless it is raining and I need the wipers
For a short period of time I had an issue with the headlights randomly turning on and off, even with the ignition off, but only when the switch was in off positionIf there is a thread that deals with this, link it please. Or even pm me. I wasn't entirely sure what the best solution was from what I read. Warranty was never an option as the car was 1,000 miles out of warranty when I bought it.

Do a search on "wacky wipers" or click here >>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/search.php?searchid=1438408

I have had the windshield motor replaced twice (both under warranty). There's a TSB out for "Uncommanded Windshield Wiper Operation". Motor and wiring shorts out due to water accumulation below the motor. Fix includes replacing the wiper motor, new pigtail, and enlarging the drain hole below the motor. Unless all 3 things are done, it will recur. Mine has been "wacky free" for more than a year now.

As my finances aren't the best right now, how much does this cost? Is this a dealer fixes for free thing, or am I looking at a few hundred dollars for a repair?

Can't speak for the lights, but for the wiper issue. I had the same problem a few of months back. Started up after i had called myself cleaning bugs from radiator, jumped in car to back it up and wipers started acting up immediately. Wouldn't you know it, got caught in a down pour, and found wipers only worked on high, totally annoying when it slacked off. After reading afore referenced post took the water hose on jet setting and shot water down through holes in the cowl, till it came out the bottom, wipers went back to acting normal. Had the dealer check it a couple weeks later during and oil change and once over, but found nothing. Haven't had a problem since rain or shine, knock on wood. Give it try, couldn't hurt specially if you're out of warranty.

Now make it a part of my car washing routine about every 4th or 5th one.

Few days ago wipers started acting up again. Fortunately not during a rain storm. Anyway took it in to dealer today, of course it was behaving when i got there. Service advisor had motor checked and had it replaced under warranty, all good now.

Also had tranny flushed BG-106, definite improvement. 30011 miles

I'm having a great time with this now. Haven't had a chance to o anything with this yet, and now that we're having rain in the Chi-town area almost daily, my wipers are only working on full blast, and my headlights are turning on as soon as the key is turned ot the "ON" position. They occasionally 'blink' so I'm turning the swich to "ON" so no one thinks I'm flashing my lights at them.
