View Full Version : re- shifter linkage

Took my MM in for oil change and a few warranty "issues"
#1. Linkage adjustment.
The mechanic said that if he adjusted it, it would not "line-up" with the letters on the console. He agreed that there was slop between P and R. His solution? Order a new shifter. Is there a TSB on this problem?
#2. Cold stumble- Tech says that the latest flash is installed. I find this hard to believe as my build date was 6-02. I printed out the bulletins from this site and showed it to him,, still says no update is available.
#3. Wiper,, tech said no adjustment there,,I applied an adjustment to it myself
Any comments, suggestions,,all help is much appreciated. :help:

Well having had both 1 and 2 done I'd say you need another tech....Again.
If you have the latest reflash you'll have a nice blue sticker under the hood on the radiator cover.

Mercman we have had alot of members here with all three of your problems fixed by the dealership. Unfortunately we have also had dealerships who have not had a clue and just gave folks the runaround. Is another dealership or another tech an option for you ?

#1 - Same answer. There is a thread detailing a fix.
#2 - Was updated in 10/02. Have same build. I remember seeing a thread stating, that they discontinued the PCM update, due to the new settings not passing CA emissions.
#3 - Same answer. Was told, they can't be adjusted. (Yeah right). Will try different SM.
A little off subject, but fitting.
Going in for 21k service next week. Stopped by Monday to have them order a new steering wheel (leather wrap coming off) and a new air-filer.
Part guy looks up Steering wheel. No problem.
Starts looking for air-filter. I tell him it's a "Marauder only" air-filter. He looks up and says:" No, the '01-03 all take the same air-filer according to my computer"
I try to tell him, it's a Marauder, not a GM. He insist, that they all take the same.
So, I go out, open the air box, remove the filter and drop it on his counter to show him the "Marauder only" stamp.
He says: "Ohh!!" checks his computer again with the part# and orders me the right one. At the end he says:" I guess I shouldn't have doubted you". No *****. I'm a proud member of MM.net and have the greatest MM resources available to me.
BTW, what's up with all those dead bugs, that fell out of the air-filter onto his counter?

ROFLMAO !!!
Damn that was a good one. I'm going to be LMAO everytime I swat one of those pesky bugs today.
Regarding bugs of the insect variety ... that's what an air filter is for, no?

If you had all those VWs, Miatas, and Civics in your air filter, maybe you need to change it more often?

Sorry Mercman. I'm afraid your thread has been totally lost.
Yeah, those darn little critters. The MM sure does swallow a lot of those pesky little things. Basically eats them alive!
How does the K&N deal with them? With all that oil, they have to come out deep-fried?!
Mercman: Seriously, do a search for the PCM update. You should find that thread somewhere. I believe FORDNUT posted that originally (Update no longer available).
Good luck!

:) I figure if I get a serious answer from this bunch in the first 3 replies, I am successful. AS FAR AS A RE-FLASH GOES, I have decided to have a dyno-tune done Aug 3rd in Chicago Ridge with Mac and a few others. After talking extensively with Mac last PM(BTW a great guy) I am going to let the dyno-tune boys solve any problems with the shudder. I understand there are a few spots left for that date. If anyone is interested, contact mac(sarge)

If the dyno-tune is being done by Jerry and Pete of FordChip, I cannot recommend it highly enough...DO IT!
Don't let any spots go unused...even if it's out of your way, DO IT! I drove 100 miles each way and it was worth it...

The dealer here in Grand Rapids Michigan re-flashed my PCM yesterday. That eliminated the hesitation. They did it without me having to specifically request it. They mentioned the service bulliten. I had it in due to occasional stalling and hesitation off idle.

I work at a Ford dealer. I had #1 done since MM wouldn't go into reverse from drive, but would from park to reverse. Didn't know about the other two. My MM doesn't stumble cold, but then again I haven't had it when it was cold out. I'm not sure what you are getting at with the wipers, I know I wished mine tucked lower under the hood but I can live with it. The sad part is TOO many people don't know about the Marauder. When I brought mine to work, which is only twice, it's ooh's and ahh's. Then the tech that got a Crown Vic Sport was rode the whole day. I won't bring it to work again since I found a screw with my left rear tire. $100 down the drain. It is possible not all dealers sent tech's to school for the Marauder. Mine sent two, one is gone from throat cancer and the other is the shop foreman. Just a note Ford will be putting out a fully synthetic 5w20 soon for those of you looking to be VERY careful about warranties.

Try asking the Service Manager to have the tech follow the workshop manual, and adjust the cable at the tranny, I done mine and works great.
Cold stumble, Ford does truly have a PCM update, and it helps, but does not fix the problem totally. After talking to a FLM rep. ford is still working on the concern, IMOP thay need to add a little more fuel in open loop phase( cold start).
Try adding one of ole D. Reinhart's chip it does wonders.
I'am a Service Manager for a FLM dealer and thats fact...

Your opinion is that they need to richen up the open-loop fuel delivery... wouldn't this be contradictory to the plug fouling that was witnessed by most folks plagued with that problem? I agree it does sound like a lean stumble, but I'm wondering if the plug thing indicates too much fuel when cold. I'd love to hear more from someone involved with the R&D on these calibrations... I'm sure there's a number of factors making it difficult for Ford to nail down a perfect solution right off the bat, I'd love to know what they were!
