For those that have not heard or seen, we are starting to build some pilot '09 Flex's and will begin full production in April '08. Strong rumours are that a twin-turbo will be available in '10 for this and the Edge/MKX and the Lincoln version of the Flex. http://themagsreport.blogspot.com/2007/07/fords-future-powertrain-direction.html

BTW it looks much better in person :D

That mated with a Mini

"Twin turbo" caught my attention, and i'm sure it's built well, but it's not pretty.

I saw the Flex at the NY Auto show in April. In my opinion they missed the boat big time with this vehicle. They don't need another cross over vehicle for cryin out loud! What they should have done is kept the outside just as it is, except they should have added the sliding minvan type doors and made the inside like a functional minivan. If they had done that, they would OWN the minivan market. Most people NEED a minivan, they just don't WANT a minivan. They don't want it to look like a minvan, they want something that looks cool. The Flex could have been that vehicle, and it would have matched it's name. Which by the way, the Flex name is horrible!
My wife did NOT want anything to do with a minivan when we bought our 2001 Windstar. We bought because we have four large dogs and needed the room and ease of entry for the dogs. After woning the Windstar she fell in love with it. She now has a 2005 Freestar with power slidng doors and power liftgate. It's a great car. I guees when it comes time to replace it, I'll have to buy a Caravan (gag) if they still make them.

Guys forget how ugly it looks.

The Limited AWD is $40K. Nobody is going to spend that kind of money on a car like that. If it was priced in the low low low 20's maybe maybe maybe someone would even consider owning one but never never never at that off the wall price.

I can only imagine how much Lincoln version is going to cost.

Ford, you get an F

Edit: I must admit, however, that the more I look at it and the more that I read about it the more it grows on me. I am actually starting to understand what Ford was trying to do. Hell, my older brother who also has a Marauder bought his wife the brand new Honda mini van. If this was out, seems like a better alternative. I wonder what its safety rating is going to be.

My grandparents got a Ford Model catalog at their house, and this was in it. I personally think it's great but my g/f doesn't like it at all.

why or why does everything new need a console?

Why not just make the old fashion station wagon again.

Subaru made the mini/mid sized Legacy and Outback and sold 100,000 of them a year. Subaru is a small company.

Sure the Freestyle now Taraus is sort of like that but not quite.

A station wagon, the car of the past easy to get into easy to get out of, hauls tons of stuff, better than a Ranchero or El Camino and easy to drive.

No now everything needs to be a console ladden bucket seated mini vanish SUVish now crossoverish truck van car.

I say bring back the station wagon. 7000 lbs towing and seating 6 plus one or two jump seats in the back. Easy to park, easy to reach the roof rack, easy to drive and can carry a little bit of everything.

Bring back the Station Wagon

not some odd looking range rover ford thingy.

Another rolling toaster. Add a luggage rack on topshaped like bread edges and it would be perfect.:D

I like it better than the P.T, cruiser, at least it doesn't look like clowns will pop out of it at any second.!!

It comes with foglamps and 18" painted aluminum wheels?! Sweet!
Butt seriously, I couldn't drive something called a Flex. It makes me think of some steroid humping neanderthal who spends what time he isn't pumping iron on the crapper, skipping brown rocks the size of mini-coopers. No offense to any pro body builders here. Or mini-coopers. Okay I'll stop now.
