Its normal and is just the heat expansion and contraction of the tips. Most noticeable when you shut it down and the tips cool off.

OH Brutha...Watch out!...Are you running less than 91 octane? If you are, please discontinue...it (using less than 91 octane) will surely cause your motor to "PING" which is considered the death call of all motors...Lift the hood and listen if you hear it (ping) over your exhaust manifolds...If so,turn your engine off.

Look for the following:
-Bad gas?
-Insufficient octane level?
-Too aggressive tune...Too much timing?
-A/F ratio too lean?

Whatever the reason..."PINGING" will definetly kill your motor in a short time...

Good Luck

ALOHA

BTW: Hopefully it is just what Bluerauder suggests...Heat expansion

^^^what Bluerauder said^^^

My black car has rarely done it, but the silver car does it all the time.

If you have the exhaust done, it will not ping anymore. That leads me to believe that the OEM cats are what causes the pings. Mine has not done it since I had the custom exhaust installed.

We heard lots of pings at MVV. Mine still does it with the DR Cobra Exhaust.

Both of our Marauders have custom exhausts and both ping all the time after we shut them off.

is it a ping or a rattle? i work for ford and the cats are notorious for crapping out and rattling

I think she is right ... now that I've listened a little closer. Definitely a TING ... just a bit above a BING.

Nope, its a ping, ask anyone who listened in the parking lot of the hotel at MVV. In fact Britty and I made a game of counting the pings. :D

You've probably got an obstruction somewhere. Should be a clear TING, PING, or BING. Check for mice, squirrels or snakes that may be nesting in your tips. Stand the MM on end and shake vigorously until the offending object is dislocated.

Anyone noticed that the guy who asked this question has not returned to say Thanks or Boo or anything? :dunno:

It could be a honda or some other ricer that was sucked up in the intake causing the obstruction,, try coaxing it out with a big "R" decal
