Thanks for posting that .... lots of memories and fantastic cars. I grew up in the 50s and 60s .... and it hit right on.

1. '57 Buick -- been a long time since I saw one of those.
2. The 409 --- one of the older guys in the neighborhood had a red convertible with "Charlie's Chariot" with a graphic painted on each of the front quarter panel behind the wheel. He was the coolest guy in town.
3. Chevy Nomad at the race track.
4. Drive -Ins --- not many of those left.
5. '58 Chevy -- I always loved the styling front and rear.
6. Route 66 -- the TV show and the road. Been there on the Missouri section that parallels I-44.

Some things missed in the video --

1. Purple dots in the taillights
2. Eye shades on the headlights
3. Fender skirts (had to watch a 2nd time)
4. Moon hubcaps. (yep, they were there on the 2nd go around)
5. Lake pipes (called "laker pipes" in this one - but I missed it the 1st time around)

It was a terrific time to grow up when cars defined the times.

Did the Japanese even make cars back then, did they know how?

Did the Japanese even make cars back then, did they know how?

yes, but they weren't imported to the US until about 1959, and then there was a gap in time before they were brought in again

Many of the Japanese cars of those times were copies of British cars such as the Austin

In fact, not Japanese obviously, but the first BMW automobile was a copy of an Austin Seven

Ironic that the once proud British automotive industry is pretty much now all owned by companies from other countries.

Actually yes, Toyota started in the states in 1957 with the Toyopet. I learned this during my brief stay at a Toyota dealer.

In the 1950's and 1960's, the term "Made in Japan" was a joke. The term was synonymous with junk ... poor quality, poor workmanship and very cheaply made. Even kids didn't want toys made in Japan 'cause they were crappy -- even their Toy cars were a poor imitation of stuff made in the USA. My how things have changed. :(

I saw my first Toyota dealer sign in Denver, CO in 1968 ... and my first assocation was to those little crappy Japanese toy cars.

Foreign cars in the 50s and 60s were typically VW beetles, VW Karman Ghias, and an occasional Saab or Peugot or MG.

Old enough to remember a lot of this video. What a great time to live. How will we be viewed in 50 years?

Many of the customised vehicles in that video are more recent creations, not of the '50s or '60s.
So a lot of it was done in the time of your generation.

Only car I ever drove in in the 60's was a 1966 A3 2 barrel 289 Mustang. As far as I know.
